I bet it was more the kids idea than the parents.

My daughter just started high school, and most of the boys hair are longer than the girls hair. I guess I'm getting old because I just don't get it. Reminds me of the long wavy, feathered hair of the 70's.

Its a whole retro thing. Some 70s designs are cool again. Even sportswear has been simplified to the 70s look by brands like Adidas (famous Adidas stripes)

Isn't it the downshift in ambitions which is actually worrying?

I mean, as in "I want to be a FedEx pilot when I grow up!" as opposed to "I want to be an astronaut!"?
