This is an annual event in West Hollywood, CA. Basically, they blocks off about a mile or so of a wide street and 300,000 costumed folks congregate and hang out, listen to music, and take pics. Initially, there was enough room to actually take pics, but by the end of the night it's so crowded you are literally elbow to elbow. So basically you are shooting costumed folks as they are walking by with no control of the street lighting, background, and you have a few seconds before they move by. Makes for fast fun shooting.

I decided to have fun more this time and brought my gnome along for a photo project of mine.

c/c welcome.

Hey Tom,

I can't believe this post has had over 200 views and not a single person left you a comment.

I looked at every photo. What a crowd!

Looks like lots of fun...and lots of interesting costumes and characters.

So...how were you dressed?

Thanks for sharing.

Hey thanks for looking at the pics.
I went as my mooning gnome (Moonie) handler. I wanted to go as a gnome but could not find a good costume and so I went as an elf and gave out treats to those taking pics with my gnome.

Yeah, it starts at 6PM but near 10PM, there were I'd say close to 300,000 people and you were elbow to elbow so you couldn't take any pics really, so we left.

Cool images Tom. Very nice use of flash and the processing is great. I really like #40. The chicks are hot

Hey thanks, in the past I used a regular Sto Fen diffuser and had to deal with the wrong WB in the background (really warm due to incandescent lighting), so this year, I went with a ColorTemp. Orange Sto Fen cover to better balance the colors with the foreground and the background.

Yeah, those "ladies" were fantastic.

Fun event - but a clear example of getting more reaction if you select and post a few images rather than a link to many.

what blows my mind is how many people in costume are armed with DSLRs! unbelievable these days! everyone is a photographer!

No you don't. You simply embed the link. No subscription is necessary.
