Well first off i hope this is in the right forum.

I want to plan a trip to the Grand Canyon. But since this will be my first time going I was wondering if you guys can help me out in pointing out which part(s) of the GC are better to photograph. I would love to get some shots of water with reflections, an view from above hopefully sunrise and sunset shots as well. I know plenty of people here have been there just want to pick your brains on some hot spots. Not sure of the north or south rim wither. My location is near Malibu just in case it is needed. Thanks in advance.

The north rim is closed in winter so that isn't an option.

There are lots of opportunities along the south rim but it seems that most people go for the section of rim to the west of the visitor center for sunrise and sunset shots.

There isn't much water there for reflections, and the water that is there is usually flowing pretty good. It is a long one-day hike down to the river and back up, but if you are a hiker it is worthwhile.

For water you might be better off in Zion canyon.

If you're not dropping below the rim, even a glimpse of the river is very difficult.

Best river and canyon shot from the rim is at Desert View. If you're going to be hiking and staying down in the canyon then you have more options. I'm not sure you're going to get many reflection shots in that river, but if you want to try you're going to have to do some good hiking and be prepared to spend a night or two (or more) at the bottom.
