What made me start thinking about this, is that I'm going to buy a 50D and a 5D Mark II later this year. But, I'm perfectly happy with my 40D and 5D. Whenever I've "upgraded" to a newer model in the past I've always sold the older model. But, I'm thinking about keeping the older models, since they still serve me well. I like having at least two bodies and I like having one with a full sensor and one with a cropped sensor. I guess I'll end up selling the older models eventually. But, at least for a while, I'll have four bodies to use.

How about you, pros and non-pros, how many camera bodies do you use?

I use 4:
IDIII and 1D as a backup for sports.
1DIII and 5D for events and weddings.
10D when I want something I can use with a flash and sit on a table.

Maybe I should have made my poll bigger. Uh, that didn't sound right.

I have 3 bodies, but also a G9 for diving & to leave in the car just in case. I've moved up the ladder so to speak now having a 40D for nature where reach is more important, a 1Dmklln for sports or in my case it's done a lot of R/C flying events this summer, and it led me to think that a 1Dsmkll would be a nice improvement over my now sold 5D. That was a real nice step that I am very pleased with.

Pure amateur, own three DSLR's, use all three, sort of "need" three.
(1) 20D for rough and tumble photography.....when the risk of damaging/losing equipment is high.
(2) 1DMkIIN for use with heavy lenses and/or when the best AF is needed.
(3) 40D every day for everything else.

2 here. One film one digital. I just upgraded my 20D to a 1Ds and I am selling it. Not much space in my bags.

I have two - a 30D and a 10D. I bought the 10D as a backup, and it has come in handy from time to time, but I don't use it very much. For the most part, I only take my 30D, unless I absolutely need a backup body.

At least you didn't say your poll was too small...

But to contribute seriously, I always have a minimum of two, because I shoot professionally. But I usually have 3, and they're always fluctuating. I think when I get my 5D2, I'll have the perfect combo (for now). 5D2 for resolution, 1D3 for speed, and XSi for personal/travel/family/etc... A tool for every task.

4 DSLRs. I own 3 of them.

I use 2 only daily assignments, 3 for football and 4 for basketball (2 remotes and 2 in my hand)

I own three cameras, I regulary use a 1D Mark III & a 1D Mark II. Once in a while I will still shoot some film on my 1V H.S.

Interesting, to me at least, how everyone uses their cameras. Nice to see film cameras showing up, even though I don't use film anymore.

Professional use...

2x 1DII as main bodies, usually with 24-70 and 70-200
1x 30D as backup / remote

Thinking of adding another 1D as remote to the set, and converting 30D to IR.

EDIT:

FWIW, I also own a Canon T90 and AL-1 and full set of lenses, but I haven't used either in over three years.

D2X landscapes, D50 throw inna truck so I've always got gear, D3/D300/1D/40D for sports/concerts/BIF etc.
They all get regular use and I wouldn't mind another D3, but that's just me. Wife says the "pole" is JUST right.
....and a Yashica A TLR with fresh 120 in the 'fridge.
