So I hear some people whining about 50D quality, saying how you can't compare images of 100% crops of 40D and 50D as they are different resolution cameras. Come on!!! Just because the resolution is bigger doesn't mean the IQ should go down! You people ever tried digital backs? 30MP images at 100% crop are SHARP. If we expected the quality of 50D to be worse than 40D then why don't we just use some interpolation program to up-size 40Ds images to 15mp. From some reviews, it shows that the quality is pretty much the same.

Yours truly,
S

I know that! Truth hurts, but someone had to point out to newbies such as yourself that there are things you just can't do in this business.

I don't know... I looked at Seth's website... not much of a newbie really. Looks like he is a good photographer.

Thanks, I appreciate that.

The reason that argument makes sense is that 100% on screen for a 15MP camera is a significantly larger enlargment than 100% on an 8 MP camera. It gives you no basis for what would look better in a print. A 15MP shot on my 1680, 22" LCD at 100% is like looking at a 56" print from the distance of you to your monitor.

An 8MP image at 100% is like looking at a 41.7 inch print. That's a big difference in magnification.

Why not get outside for a while. Get some sun, maybe take a picture with a camera or something.

Oh not again!

I have hardly even seen any serious 100% crops from a 50D yet and besides, I am sure a good photographer can take a shot with a 40D, view it at 100% then take the same shot with the 50D and also view it at 100%, I really doubt the results will be that much different.

This is another thread designed to rile people, it contains absolutely nothing useful or beneficial to the FM community.

Sorry, I don't accept your argument. Comparisons I've done show the 50D clearly resolves more detail than the 40D. Any apparent softness in 50D files is most likely due to in camera noise reduction (JPG) or DPP (raw). Both methods include high ISO noise reduction applied as standard whereas it's off in the 40D. Any comparisons should make every effort to equalize all the variables.

some of my comparisons:

Magnification? You are magnifying the softness of the lens and the noise.

A bit like a longer lens would magnify motion blur due to the increase relative distance drawn by the same arc of motion at a longer focal range. You wouldn't say why must IQ drop with longer lenses would you?

Gone the way of the "Kanon Kid"! Maybe if too many people hit the "Hide Me" button, it sends up a "Red Flag", or X as it is!!
