DP Review says no built-in flash. Canon USA says built-in flash. Which is more trustworthy? Any suggestions as to how to clarify this question?

It definitely doesn't look like there's flash. And DPR's review didn't have a flash on that body, so unless they change something serious from now till the time they start shipping...

Because when you are trying to go light and small as is possible it is nice to have the on-board flash

Can you provide the link on Canon's site that say there is a built in flash?

or the new Sunpak RD2000

Canon's site also said it was compatible with EF-S lenses...I think they didn't proof the release info very well.

Think they just took the 50D page and editted it and miss some stuff!

Just checked the Site, Looks like they cleaned it up. Even mentions the 1 Cross-type point

I would love one built in (not a pop up though), just something like a little P&S to fire the pre-signals to off camera flashes... sort of exactly like Nikon's commander mode It does not even need to be functional as a flash - just the preflash or maybe it could double as a sort of focus assist also (with an option to disable in the menu).

Couldn't agree more! When will Canon get off their butts and catch up to Nikon in this regard. Why do I still have to use a master flash mounted on the camera just to trigger my slaves...oh wait, because Canon want me to buy more flashes...d'oh.

I don't mind the lack of built-in flash. But the lack of a built-in flash controller is strange in 2008. Perhaps they're waiting to see if this so called "electricity" will catch on.....

I use a 220ex as if it were a pop-up flash when I don't really need to use 'fancy' flash. I just stick it in my pocket if I don't need it. It's also good for an emergency too.

A built in flash controller should have been a "must" in my opinion....opportunity lost to put a smile on many peoples faces.

Two things, few serious lighting people would use it (stobist people and the like). And secondly, if you're paying 2.700 for a camera canon thinks you can afford a 500 dollar flash

The more I think about it, I'd rather use a normal flash just because of the options and the fact it doesn't drain my batteries.
