I think the 5DMK2 has captured the award for the most complained about new release DSLR yet. And it hasn't even hit the streets. Its kind of amazing really.

No the 20Dn aka as 30D copped a hiding as it offered bugger all over the 20D except a bigger screen and picture styles.

Not before it was released though.

Yeah, I am talking about pre-release. Of course once its released the complaints will really start rolling in (even though the 10D is only what, 6-7 years ago)

Yep, it has to be the 5D2... The Moon Parade ended in an old fart

The 5DIII is so bad you won't even believe it. Only 2160p video, only 5 fps, and that god-awful 18-point AF lifted straight from the 60D.

My vote goes to the 30D on this one.

I wasn't hanging around this place during the 30D launch, I was barely starting my photography journey at that point, and I can totally see why it would get people riled up too, however certainly in the time I've been here, this is by far the most complained about model, and, IMHO, quite rightly, Canon deserve everything they get after all the "future of photography" hype.

Thanks for making a thread about it.

Yo, take a chill pill, people! So Canon's product development schedule does not match your own schedule, all of them! Deal with it!
I owned a 20D and "upgraded" to the 30D. Wanna know why, just for the screen. I'm getting older and hate to wear reading glasses for the occassional menu manipulation. The 30D was a big help. My only hopes for the 5DII were for, you guessed it, a larger screen, sensor cleaning, updated menu system (like the 40D and MKIII), and a MP bump. I didn't need that large a bump (gonna need all new hard drives and a RAM upgrade).
If Canon continues to disappoint you, I can't imagine your disappointment at the Chevy Volt.

Canon has the greatest marketshare, so they have the biggest share of complaints as well. Pity the companies that have only a few complaints. They have a lot fewer customers too. Canon has EOSfun and EOSnag

Hooray, EOSfun is finally "in da house"

So what's the verdict ? 5DII, EOSfun or no EOSfun ?

Destined Evolution is a bold statement for Canon then. but who knows, there might be another missle already loaded in the "canon." some people are not happy the released specs but I believe it just sets the stage for the Pro series.

A 21MP full frame , 4fps, for just US$2600 is amazing good news for prosumers aspiring to go FF.

5DII is great news and a great camera.

HOWEVER, the secrecy and mass speculation about this camera is what has killed the launch, in my opinion.

Reading this, and other forums, for the past year has prompted the photo community to make up their own specs. And what brilliant specs they were too. It was going to be effectively a 1DsMk4 by the time the FMers had finished, and at less than 2000 bucks.

The only thing that has dampened this release is the reality-check.

Craig.

I don't think that's strictly true, most of the complainers (myself included) just wanted a Canon D700.....we KNOW that can be done, I said when the 1Ds II came out that I can't imagine a use for that many MP, and my position isn't changed, 12.8 was always more than enough for my (and I suspect most people's) needs.

People want a lexus for the price of a Toyota. most of the Bitchin and whining is by pixel peepers.."iso 640000 shots..look at the noise" ...bleh. either buy teh camera or don't buy...but for frikkin sake..go take a picture.

A fool with a tool is still a fool. no matter how many features and megapixels.

Chris it's all about megapixels. I must thank EOSfun for having educated me on this highly philosophical level. That will help me be a better artist.

Ocean7, I thought you'd been defending the camera all day ? I'm one of the "bitchers and moaners" that wanted a riposte to the D700 and couldn't give a stuff if it stayed at 13MP

I am more trying to defend FM as it was some time ago.

Fair enough, it does seem to be more confrontational around here recently.

I can't personally see what *else* an updated *5D* was going to give, except what it did.

Yes, there are many things others would *like* and Nikon is now making some spankingly good cameras, but this is the *5D* upgrade, and we got pixels, self-cleaning, LCD screen, liveview, menu, modes, ISO's blah blah etc (and the ubiquitous video, for good or bad)

It's what I personally expected more or less. It will take exceedingly good pictures, isn't that the point after all?

Most complained about camera yet?

According to the one poll here, over 65% of folks have a favorable initial opinion, and that's from the forum folks only. Since this group doesn't even make up a significant portion of the target market for the 5D II, I'd say Canon has to be very pleased with the response thus far.

If a potential buyer walks into a store and looks at the D700 & 5D II, the 5D II will win in just about every category, except the # of AF points & weather sealing. I don't care or need 51 AF points or weather sealing so I'll take my $400+ savings and be a happy camper.

David,

You're right, it does take exceedingly good pictures (the ISO6400 I've just seen, despite being underexposed, is gorgeous) but so does the 5D MK 1! The game has moved along a lot in the last year, I think a lot of us are frustrated at not having a product competitive with what we know others can do, and Canon could do if they so desired.

Chris
