I really wanted to like this camera and have the money saved up, especially at this price. I will not be buying this camera, based on the specs. What really got me excited about the 5D replacement was the D700. Now I can only hope that Canon has one more trick up it's sleeve and will announce the 3D at PK.

If not, I've waited this long to get into full frame. I guess an other year or so won't kill me.

too sad, it doesn't have environmental seal for the body, I think i am gonna keep my 5D MK1,

FF and all the newest latest gee whiz bang for $2699 MSRP - by Jan it will drop some (i hope..i'll buy after the first of the year).

I'd like to see the AF points in the viewfinder as that was my one nit to pick with the 5D - too much space between the points and edge of frame.

I do like the extra AF points, 25,600 ISO and I know the noise at 6400 or better will be super clean. I'd like longer batt life (i'm used to 1400 shots on my 40D's) but I'll deal I suppose.

I'll never use 21mp. sRAW1 at 11.1 MP is more than I've got now and it still more than I need. 3.9FPS is sufficient..although I find I like 6.5 at times a lot.

Nice, but I'm happy with the 1D series.

I think the AF system is the same as the original. This was very surprising. They did add micro adjustment though.

What extra AF points? It's the same as the 5D!

even crazier is RG claims it doesnt even use the gapless sensor technology (held back for 1 series??). If you dont imrpove the mirror box or AF at leat give the most up to date sensor? nikon will kill this with the D800 in a year.

There will always be something new down the road that is an upgrade from the current model.

Looks great...I sold my 5D for a 1ds Mark II due to focusing problems in low light. I hope the focus system is much better in the 5D II..

It's exactly the same according to RG and confirmed with Chuck Westfall.

looks like a nice body, but i'll definitely give it 6 months or so to see what reviews say, wait for bugs to be ironed out, and wait for the price to come down a bit.

until then, my 5D and 40D are performing rather well.

I was hoping for somewhat less MP's for everyday/wedding duty along side my 1Ds3

Furthermore, I hate the 9 AF point design. I think the FPS are too slow for my needs. And a proper weathersealing is a must have for me too. So, I think I will pass on this one. I am not paying another 2500 euros for something that I have the better version of (1Ds3). Too bad the VF of a 50D is so damn small...

Same. Exact. AF. They didn't bother to even make the outer AF points cross-type. Wha, wha, whaaaat

You mean the '6 invisible AF assist points' are not new? I don't like the spacing of the AF points on the 5D and no one around here uses it for weddings as it's low light focus sucks (compared to the very popular for weddings 40D/1d3). If the AF really is the same I'm probably gonna pass.

That's disappointing. Oh well. Canon's loss more than mine I suppose.

all points are cross type like the 40D, with the center 'additionally sensitive with 2.8 or better lenses' - meaning X and + like the 40D.

I'm seeing conflicting info on this then. I think RG's preview claimed the exact same AF as 5D, and no mention of all points being cross-type in the DPR preview either.

I didn't vote because my answer is not on the list

The 5DII looks to be a "hit" (as much as expensive cameras can be considered "hits"), but I'm just not in the market to replace my 5D... I really don't need more MP right now, and while the better LCD would be really appreciated by me, it just isn't enough to spend the $$$

Hit. Total.

For me, definetely a miss. Where I would see improvements possible on the 5D (AF, fps, sealing), I see only very incremental change, if not no change at all (AF). I am a bit upset the gapless sensor technology did not make it to full frame sensors yet. My 5D has served me well so far, and will continue doing so. For new buyers, I am sure this camera will be a hit though.

I think Canon went the cheap way... They have got the 1Ds3 sensor laying around (and probably did some heavy investments on it's development). So they figured... Let's put the 1Ds3 sensor in a xxD body and we will have a hit... Nothing wrong with that of course...

Same formula as the 5D - great image quality, not so great body (compared to the D700, that is).
I'm betting there will be double rebates sooner than Canon would like.

not what I wanted, but I didn't expect it to be. I am looking for a hybrid 1d mk3 and a 5d....pro AF, pro body and around 16mp etc.

The camera looks nice though, my wife might be interested when her 5d needs replacing.....

Roll on PMA 2009!

+1.
Canon still trying to sell megapixels, not great cameras
