Just wondering, anybody who owns a 200 2.8L, mark 1 or 2...

How does it take a 1.4x teleconverter, or even a 2x for that matter? How much is the IQ affected? For the 1.4x, does the AF suffer?

I'm looking for a lens in that focal range that is able to be stretched a little bit (for wildlife), as funds are rather limited, what with me being a student and all. I don't need IS either so that's not an issue.

I didn't try it with 2x but it took the cheapo Tamron 1.4x really well. AF may suffer just a bit but IQ is still excellent.

For wildlife, I don't think it's long enough. You may want to try the 400 f5.6 or the 300 f4 + 1.4x.

Thanks for the info. I went to your page and am impressed by the sharpness and quality of your wildlife shots. What did you use to take these, if you don't mind my asking?

Thanks. Those were mostly taken with the 300 f4 non-IS and some were with the 1.4x.
