i could easily live with 9 + 6 assist IF they have imporved the performance of the center point and assists to 1dmkiin-type performance and give it its own AF chip.
If it is same exactmodule as 5D and driven by digic again that would rather disappoint!! i'm fearful that is the case.
Seriously they could've raised it to D700 price and put that in no problem and ended any questions for anyone as to whetehr to go nikon or canon or if already in canon whether to switch or to go 50D and wait till 5fmkii comes out or what.

would've been surely nice to get to 5fps too, since it is 21mp and not 24mp i wonder what happened to that extra bit of power which wouldve gotten it to 5? i hope they didnt mechanically limit is by a slower shutter?

anyway i'm sure the IQ will be fantastic though, movie mode is very cool (although 5fps and top AF cooler....) hopefully the AI servo will top the 40Ds at least and then just have to live with 4fps.

i guess canon never will put out the sports cam below $4200 1series price....
if im gonna spend $2700, hardly nothing, might as well spend $3000 and get 6fps and a separate AF chip?

anyway, for non action it should rock
hopefully it will be passable for action too.

for someone new it would be a tricky call between D700 and this the other is more action oriented but then again at 12MP and FF your reach is limited and you'd need a super pricey 400 2.8 or stick a tc on a 300 and there goes your money or your AF performance.

i can't decide how i feel about this body i am happy with most of the specs but i can't help but be a bit upset over a few things like the AF, no wireless flash control and that shitty ass grip

with that said, i am still going to go ahead with my plan and go with the 50D/5DmkII option.

now, who wants to buy a mint 1DsmkIII + extras

Congrats, Mr G, on your decision. Good to see you stick with Canon (spec-wise ATM at least!).

I am really excited about the 5DII ... the specs seem tempting. Which means more and more 5D owners will be selling their camera soon, and I've been waiting to snag a 5D for a while now.

"The Canon EOS 5D is slated to ship towards the end of November 2008 at an expected street price of US$2699 in the U.S."

arrrr just in time for the whole fall sports season to be OVER.
aggh useless for all those ISO3200 soccer matches now.

maybe i better just stick to my 40D (or maybe get a 50D) and then sell it once the 5dmkii has the inevitable few hundred price drop after its been out 8 months, i'll prob siwtch from action to much less action at that point in time anyway, and december/jan is total complete down time for much of my photography,

If you want more spend more on the camera with the specs you want.

The 5D2 is fantastic for the price range.

Nice specs but the AF is still a disappointment.

Interesting the rear buttons have returned to the side, unlike the 40 and 50d's bottom buttons.

Well done.

Now let's make sure there are no focus issues with it

Is everyone overlooking the fact that the MSRP is $2700??! Glad I got rid of the 1ds3 already...

It would appear that this is the same sensor that's in the 1ds3 and they're just pushing it. If not, why no mention of a new sensor in the press release?

Ah, my mistake: it does say new sensor...though why make it the exact same size as the 1ds3? Are they going to be offering sensor swaps for 1ds3 owners?

I think RG mentioned it as "street price". It may mean MSRP > $3K.

There are a couple on the Canon web site, both ISO 100. It is major league slow right now as folks grab them.

Any chance a 16mp, 5+fps sibling may yet be released this fall? The 5DII looks great but not exactly what I was looking for.

it's got to be a new one, they wouldn'y seriosuly make this big of a deal if it didn't have the new 50D-type sensor??
