On Monday, Canon will be running some later summer rebates. It's not the normal spring or fall rebate. It's only on if you buy the 40D or the XSI. Buy a 40D w/ 70-300 IS, and save $150. Buy a XSi w/ 75-300mm non USM, and save $100. They are instant.

The last rebate in Canada (ended 31 July) was for varions camera, lens anf flash combintaitons: for the 40D plus a designated lens it was $200 for the camera and $100 for the least expensive lens listed. By buying a lens and flash with an already discounted 5D I got rebates of $400 for the 5D and $200 for the lens and flash. We had mail-in rabates going continuously for at least 8 months prior to 31 July.

This rebate sounds pretty weak.

The aforementioned rebate is a sort of "bonus" rebate in between spring and fall so in that respect it is stronger than nothing. Nonetheless, our US spring rebate was admittedly pretty weak.

Looks like an effort to move the remaining 40D inventory.

Nope, just the stuff I mentioned. We'll likely see a full blown rebate period in the fall like usual. I have zero info on that though. I usually get a heads up on this a few days before it goes into effect.
