Just wondering what filters I should purchase. I will be using this primarily for landscapes, cityscapes, etc. I am brand new to this world so go easy on me and forgive my ignorance if I did not ask the right question. Thanks so much!

Probably just one, a circular polarizer. I would recommend a B+W Kaesemann.

Good advice, you won't need the slim one, either.

On an FF body maybe a slim one might be useful.

+1 on "just one, a circular polarizer."

The CP filter has quite a few uses - here's a Readers Digest version:

1. Can be used to, for example, darken skies and increase contrast with clouds in landscapes.
2. Can be used to reduce reflections - on glass, water, foliage, etc.
3. Can function as a quick and dirty neutral density filter in some situations in which you want to increase exposure time or use a larger aperture.

If you are into long exposures already and you have a specific need for it, some sort of neutral density filter could also be useful - but don't rush out and buy one unless you understand why.

Nope, not needed.

Sound advice on the CP. I've got B+W F-Pro circular polarizers for all lens sizes I've got and though they cost a bit, they're well worth it.

Regarding "slim" filters, it isn't the full-frame body that might call for this. However, if you use some UWA lenses or ever stack filters you might check into this.

My camera body is the 1dII so it is a crop. So the suggestions still stand. This is my first wide angle lens. I have primarily been shooting birds and wildlife. So long exposure is not even in my vocabulary yet. Thanks.
