The reason for my statement is purely based on the price point that Canon has introduced the 50D at. Over here in the UK it is £1200, when the 30D/40D came out they were both in the £750 bracket. I'm assuming this means that they will still continue to sell the 40D and not discontinue it like they did the 30D |

That is correct, they plan on selling the 40D until at least the end of the year. |

I'll bet that the 40D will still be available for a month or so, until the 50D hits the streets for real. Kind of like when they released the 450D. At first the 400D was there too but surely disappeared from the shelves. |

The 30D was still out there at about $400 less than the 40D. It will be the same with the 50D and 40D. |

With Canon, it's always hard to make estimates as "they" don't think like most other manufacturers... |

I'm sorry but the 50D really is a replacement for the 40D, no matter what Canon may tell you. Yes, it's more expensive, but so what? New tech usually is. I paid about $1500 for my 40D a year ago with the kit lens. It's since been sold, but you can look at the 50D as a direct replacement since it costs about the same on day 1 as the 40D did ($100 more). That said, since the manufacturing costs for the 40D have doubtless dropped, it makes sense for Canon to sell it alongside the new 50D at least until stocks are depleted, if not beyond that. |

It seems to be launched at a strange price in the UK. I agree with Stevens points. I was just looking at warehouseexpress and with the kit lens it comes out at £1500 approx $2700. |

It is, have you seen the price of the D700 here in the UK? |

So, hop a plane for the difference and enjoy a week end in New York or Boston. |
