PEOPLE that are complaining all the time when they find time to take some pictures??ALL that they are doing is complaining!!! I BET that if they'll have the chance to shoot 30 minute with a D300 AND look after that on the screen of PC and to see the softness from the pictures taken with D300 ,they'll love more their CANON gear!!!!! JUST TRY IT!!!

I think Nikon has implemented a similar feature in their D40 series. This is what they say about it:

New advanced help menu system with assist images: The D40's newly introduced "assist images" help you select the appropriate settings for many camera features by showing an example image typical of that setting as well as an advanced help menu for the current item selected. The D40's question mark icon (?) indicates that help is available for the currently selected item. Just press the help button beside the LCD monitor to see a context sensitive help page.

The implementation is different but the idea seems similar.

interesting. i simply found it odd that canon seems to be saying you can buy your way up in skill level ("advanced amateur" is an unofficial skill title one metaphysically earns, "buyer of nice camera" is not), and that knowing the absolute basics of photography (e.g., the mere definitions of "aperture," "shutter speed") are not requirements to consider yourself an "advanced" photographer.

enough of this red bull. i'm going out to shoot some pictures.

cheers.

I have FM on one screen and ACR editing 1200 photos from the last wedding on the other. I'm a pro wedding shooter, I sit processing and making up albums half the week while shooting thousands of money making frames the other half! I'm actually having a weeks vacation at present, everyone is away on holiday so no weddings for me, 3 next week, 2 and a barmitzva the week after.

I agree with your post. There are so many prissy little people on this forum that just bitch and moan about these cameras that it's getting REALLY old, REALLY fast. I don't think half these people even know how to take a good picture. They have an assumption that the camera is not good enough for them, yet the Canon 1DsIII is somehow way overpriced --- and it isn't good enough either. Maybe they just need to sell their car, house, and all posessions, then buy a hasselblad digital. I have a feeling that would not be good enough for these special people either. "Like, OMG, the Hassy doesn't shoot at 6FPS? I'm, like totally going to call my BFF about this."

Better yet, maybe they should start their own camera company. Soon, Canons and Nikons will meet their real competitors --- The UncleBob D-Infinity with a stunning Infinity megapixels, Infinity focus points, and a special cat face finder mode. It also has hover mode so it will fly into the air and shoot photos for you! That's right, the UncleBob D-Infinity will take those precious cat photos while you're chugging down a Mr. Pibb and a bag of cheetos.

Good post Ben, you hit the nail on the head.

Gee..give the OP a break. He's pointing out some good info and YOU jump him and call him a whiner? What? is dpreview.com finally kicking some guys out so you came to this board.
Respond with facts (like the OP) not name calling. He's right and he made point with facts....not 'nyah! nyah! you stink!'.

I am happy with my 5d and think the 50d is a nice bump on the 40d and is a nice price point competitor to Nikons mid-range consumer camera's (or Sony's Oly's and others).

Kick back and take some more photos....

Yes becuase we are FM.com loyalists who knew what it was like in the good ol days. When we could check the gear forum and actually learn why there is a square hole behind the 17-40L rather than a circular one, or learn what that little slot in every camera grip does (holding your battery cover) and other interesting things like that, or even see a comparison between a circular polarizer and a linear one and see what difference that makes. Not listen to people bitch about how soft their 85L is or why Canon is a failure a life.

Plus, everyone here is agreeing with the OP.

Yes. Whining about whining, is GOOD whining. It's when someone is just whining that is bad.

As 'rwalls3' suggests above, the fact that Canon $hit-canned a perfectly good, years-old AF technology that they could have 'trickled-down' to the prosumer cameras is mind-numbingly questionable.

Are you referring to the mk3 AF, or the improved mk2 version?

No, that would be the 'improved mk2 version' I was referring to.

It's what seperates the pro's from the amatuers, especially those amatuers who keep screaming 'go out and take photos' while pros are shooting more in a day than they shoot in a month.

I actually agree with your sentiments Beni, but often it's the rank amateurs that shoot more in a day than some of us do in a month.

Are people really complaining already? We don't even know what the IQ is like yet!
It seems to me that there is a lot of complaining that X camera hasn't been released yet, and that complaining only ends when it is released, at which point it is instantly bashed.

Oh, and to the OP, I hate to nit pick, but the 40D had AF in live view. (Although not 16 modes or whatever the 50D has! ) I am just not sure why there is so much confusion about the live view function on the 40D...

I agree with this thread, if you don't like what is available, go someplace else.

I think some people always try to justify getting the latest and greatest. I think if you skip a few model upgrades you'd be happier when you do. As an example, going from a 20D to a 50D, will put a smile on most peoples faces.

I guess my way of thinking is, if you are unhappy waiting for the new model, or the new model does not meet your expectations, maybe you need find a way to kill some time until the date that the perfect camera finally arrives.
How you ask? Oh I don't know, hmmmm, errrrr, how about going out and taking some photographs?

jscoby05, i am in total agreement with you. all the canon forums around the net, fredmiranda, dpreview, etc, etc. so many complainers. its unbelievable. a quick search on flickr by camera will show amazing photos from the 1Ds3 to 300D.

Forums are becoming completely unusable and just full of loud-mouth whiners.

I wish there existed an highly moderated forum without "rumor" threads and constant complaining about how someone's new camera didn't make into ansel adams.

Not all forums. Just head over to the Nikon forum and you can get into some very civil conversation topics.
