Thats already in the 40D..the center is cross and diagonal with 2.8 and faster and all 9 points are cross type at 5.6

I suppose it doesn't really matter to me since I only use the center AF point if I use AF at all.

I guess then No one needs to have ANY other options since thats how you shoot and you make it seem like thats the only way to shoot. Center point or nothing

I said, "it really doesn't matter to me," and it doesn't. That doesn't exclude the options for others and I don't really care what others do. And yes, I use the center point or nothing. Usually nothing since I manual focus the vast majority of the time just like I have for almost 40 years. I'm just used to doing it that way.

I seldom use the center AF point. It accounts to about 5% of my shots.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

Don't know what about you but I am far from excited.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

Forgive me if this point has already been made. There are far too many
threads and posts on the 5D mkII and the 50D already.

I think the just-announced 50D bodes ill for a 5D mk II, but I hope I'm wrong.
The 50D is a 15.1 megapixel body, compared with 21.1 megapixels for the 1DsIII.
Would Canon bother to introduce a prosumer body that fits between these two
pixel counts? I doubt Canon will make a 5D II that matches the pixel count
of the flagship model -- unless they take the Nikon approach, which they've
resisted doing so far. If the 5D II is also a 15 megapixel body, but full frame,
will it be worth substantially more than the 50D price?
I would prefer the larger sensor and would pay more, but how much more will
the market support?

Thought I will resurrect this thread just to remind people about Geoff's post.

I think you'll find that the current 1DsIII is about to be replaced and that the new 5DII will hit a simular MP count and fps as the current model.

the likelihood of a 21mp in the 5d replacement is very real...

What amazes me more are posts that thank this person - as though the act of writing something down makes it true.

Writing it down doesn't make it true...getting it on the Internet makes it true!

Don't you know nuthin'?

hmm but didn't canon long ago switch to a much more computer design based method?

Everybody switched to computer lens design 'way back in the 70s, except perhaps Leitz.

I dont think Canons done yet..they upgraded the display, sensor,HDMI yes a gimmick but more useful than the blue button...I dont think they are going to stop at the 50D do you?
I do think there is a 5D Mk2 in the coming month with these upgrades and more mps
I do think there is a 3D in the works a baby 1 series if you will...to me this makes sense
people want a weatherized body based on the EOS3 and Canon should listen...Nikons D90
is going to fill many holes if Canon doesnt do something quick...
BTW we dont want HD recording on a DSLR

Hiya. Isnt DIGIC Spelled like DIGIC IIII instead of DIGIC IV? I know it does not make any sense but thats how Canon does it in their webcast (which is impressivly informative by the way, you should really check it out)
I;d like to know what Nikon next move is now!
(oh and you can find webcast on the canon website http://www.canon-europe.com/thefutureofphotography)

There is a 5D replacement coming soon. And other FF soon.

...snip... snip....

And (from what I know) the new 5D replacement, along with, later new FF, are also deeply impressive cameras carefully targeted knowing the specs of the new Nikon and Sony FF. They are far from the ‘warmed up” 40Ds that we would have had if the 5D replacement had have come out last year.

Curious what the second FF is gonna be like.

This time, it better have an improved AF sensor...

The 5D Mk2 is WORSE than the warmed-up 40D in terms of features.
