Well ... competition from Nikon certainly made Canon wiser and less complacent. Even if Canon's merely playing catch-up with the D300 with these specs - I hope they've realized that it is not enough to flood the market with entry models named Rebel/xxxD/Kiss/Ass, etc! Healthy competition - good for us.

+1 if this is true, i really hope that someone at canon is getting fired soon. i can see the discussion right now:

engineer : We really need to do something about this ancient AF system...

Marketing: forget the AF system, we need more MP..

Engineer : what about noise?

Marketing: f the noise, we have more MP!!!

Engineer : yeah but what about all the rest?

Marketing: what about it?

Hmmm, up to now the most reliable rumor-like link I have seen about a possible new Canon product. If this is true and no 5D replacement is planned still, it just means that Canon still sells enough technically outdated 5D samples for a good price and still doesn't want to danger its super-expensive 1D and 1Ds camera markets with a 5D MkII. Or, differently spoken, it means that not enough 1D models were sold in the last couple of months which is no surprise to me after all this AF failures in this line.

So....I might keep on using maybe my Rebel XT for another 6 months as main DSLR camera

Also why would Canon build IS in the body and thus shooting themselves in their own foot for the most part? And here I am talking about canibalizing their own IS Lenses market ?

Assuming though that that's somehow masked info, there is a typo which I doubt that even Canon China will make: Degital instead of Digital
Hmmm.
We shall see

Any typo's are due to Google's language translation. I ran it though some other transation tools, and it came out much better in some areas of the spec, and worse in others.

I was in a hurry to post this info, and granted I was a bit excited to have found it in the first place. It could all be a cruel joke by Canon China's web developers, but it's all too real. Especially with the recent interview with a Canon China rep discussing the release of only one camera this year. It's all a bit disappointing if you were hoping for a 5D replacement like me.

Yea really..i mean what is there about these specs that the 40D doesnt really already have..VGA screen and Micro adjustment. That isnt playing catchup at all with nikon thats just dragging your feet and hoping people get a boner over 15mp

I have been running the text through other translators... here is that same line from using WorldLingo:
"In the lens sets guards against shakes the function, reduces blurring which because the hand shakes creates, brings the more photography pleasure!"

It seems like Google is having a hard time with some of the technical descriptions. It does not seem possible to have two IS systems work together... the 2nd translation makes more sense, it just refers to the in lens IS.

Jarnold

I am not saying anything about you.
It is I find a little bit strange. But I am not that versed in this bizarre translation universe
I am not hoping for anything really. I already got my 40d.
All I am trying to say is that we will find out soon.
Another point what makes me raise my eyebrows, is that it is a hidden info within their site.
I personally find it hard to believe that the mother ship in Japan simply does not know what other subsidiaries are doing.
The interview I don't know about it.
But the fact that the rep stated one camera could mean anything. As long as he did not hint anything.
Now, if this ends up Made in China, then I guess I will drop Canon.

My 2 cents

Yes, right, but it all comes back to sales numbers and profit. Canon is no longer interested to support semi-professional and professional photographers mostly, it focuses just on how to make the best possible profit with the lowest possible costs. And a huge number of consumers are just impressed by MPs!

So...the idea of producing Rebel 1000nds and some new xxDs with more MPs, and not focusing on an extension of the 5D line might even lead to a promotion of somebody in the marketing or management. It just depends on what the majority of consumers prefers - and that's mostly the cheap stuff.

Ok. So an improved IS I read it then.
But this is refering to body not the lens, the 50d I mean

I think this is going to push ALOT of people over to Nikon with its major lack of features for teh users and even keeping up with its competition.

If Canon becomes interested only in the consumer area neglecting or simply dropping the ball on semi-pros and pros, well I guess they may loose on the long run.
From a reputation standpoint for sure.
So, should we the Canon users go to Nikon ?

It looks pretty good to me. It is a pretty typical Canon upgrade. I don't know why people are disappointed. Compare this camera to the 40D, not the 5D or a 1 series.

ISO 12800 in 15MP 1.6x sensor is that a sick joke.

What a crock of shite.

And even if true this does not mean there's no new FF this year.

Maybe - but how many users like me for example have heavily invested in Canon glass, so a switch to Nikon would be a loss and a major inconvenience? So Canon would pretty much screw semi-professional users, but this might be much less than 10% of Canon's photo market. Not sure if this would be a huge danger for Canon's profitability if they just focus on the quantity of sales in the consumer segment.

I compare it to what the competition is doing... and if these specs are true I don't get the impression that Canon is really innovating or trying to compete. Just MHO.

True, sorry about that comment. I don't want to start any rumors.
I'm still happily shooting with a 1DmkII, and will continue do so for a long time. (That is until a nice 5D replacement is to be had 2nd hand for cheap).

This InBody IS might work in conjunction with lens IS...who knows yet.
