I've got a beautiful FD 55 1.2 (the "new FD" mount) that I'd love to use on my 40D. Adapters are not an option because you either lose infinity focus (with the adapter rings sans elements) or lose a stop (with the adapters with elements); not to mention the optical quality sucks. I did a little research and came across this guy that did the conversion himself. Has anyone attempted this kind of surgery with their FD glass? Any advice?

(Would anyone want to donate a junky, broken EF lens?)

A very ambitious project!
I have toyed w/adapter lens arrangments, but I would probably go for
just getting a 50mm/f1.4 and for the cost say I was done.
If you do this conversion project, be sure and post the results as your success
adds to the possibility of others having success.

Seth, I've never done the FD conversion (although I'm currently working on a Minolta conversion) but if you search 'FD to EOS' on the Alternative Gear Forum, you'll come up with good info...if I remember correctly, I think there's a step by step procedure too (but I'm not certain). Anyway, I hope that helps and GOOD LUCK!

Yeah I tend to agree. Use it on an FD film body and enjoy or sell it and get something more compatable with your set up. Great glass you can't use is a paperweight.

I wouldn't mess with the conversion - it's just depreciating the value IMO.

Don't know anything about it personally - but I have read that some old Canon FD-EOS adapters are still floating around, but very pricey if you can find one. There is now a seller on Ebay claiming to have a "New" FD-EOS adapter design (supposedly made in conjunction with Hartblei). Don't know if it works or not, but you may want to check it out if you haven't already.
