A good friend and co-worker recently commissioned me to take some photos of him and his place. He's been living out on Folly Beach, South Carolina for the past seven years and his time there is up. He has a very strong connection with the ocean, both physical and spiritual. Just looking for a little feedback here. I went black and white to eliminate any interference from colors as they can suggest things when we do not want them to. Also, instead of airbrushing blemishes, stubble, etc., I enhanced them by sharpening the photo. I felt like all of these things would contribute to his story. This time in his life.

I know I can get honesty here so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Best,
Matthew

This works for me. You've definitely captured a pensive look on his face and especially in his eyes.

A nice portrait and conversion Matthew, did you take any of him near the ocean to help with the connection.

Thanks Alan.
I did. I think I ended up with just under 250 photos to choose from. This one was probably the best portrayal of his thoughts and actions about leaving the beach so I processed it first. I also shot some photos of his apartment. Things that mattered to him there, etc. I'll post more as they become available. He was looking to get 5 photos out of the session. So we'll see...
