It could be a hoax. He has a whole list of possible bugs, but haven't seen any mentioned here yet though.

"Nikon announced to pause D700's production to go back to the beginning to repair and fix problems, bugs, and machine errors - such as -

Defective sensor • fails to deliver results without blown highlights at minimum aperture at low ISO • incompatible with Mac OSX 10.5 Leopard • CF door are very fragile • focusing screen is slightly misplaced • AF points will not be able to move around in CL / CH mode • Auto WB (White Balance) fails to change the color temperature when SB-900 have a color temperature filter attached (SB-900 reads the filter to send information to D3-Series / D700 to adjust the white balance) • D700's popup flash is not working properly for Nikon Creative Lighting System as the master flash • high ISO banding appears after ISO 800 • short battery life (expects to have at least 1,500 shots per charge but it dies after 250 shots) • LiveView have wrong shooting modes (It have to be switched - Tripod Mode is Handheld Mode, Handheld Mode is Tripod Mode) • problems with USB Mass Storage option • AI ring (for manual focus lenses) is too stiff • D700's popup flash menu doesn't include "M" (manual flash input) • fails to write RAW data onto card (XMP) • (rare) hot / dead pixels on LCD screen • lens mount is fragile • does not recognize MB-D10 when attached • hot / dead pixels occur at higher ISO's • AF-C tends to back-focus slightly"

Everyone knows this clown is a fake (and a jackass).

Darth Vader II

There is a possibly valid argument that he may be somehow mentally ill because he is truly crazy for attention, but who knows. All the whackos are on the internet these days.

Thanks, interesting read. Man, that guy has issues.
Maybe a case of NAS gone bad? He has a lot of nice stuff.

I don't know Ronald, with his history I wouldn't even be sure that he owns anything at all.

I used a D700 last week and I did not encounter any of the problems Mr. Spina talks about in his video.
I have not seen or read any unfavorable reports on the new camera. I have not seen or read in the Web or from any of the Nikon representatives here in the United States or Europe that any adjustments are needed or necessary. At least till this morning, no news from Nikon on regard to the D700 having issues.
Nikon has always been a conservative company. They never have been known to rush a product to market without thorough testing. I am sure the D700 has been on the making along with the D3 and that it was fully tested before they put it for sale.
I have no questions about the quality of Nikon products and the integrity and commitment of their engineers.
Could this guy be working for Canon?

The OP did start of saying "It could be a hoax". From the tone, while alarmist, I think the OP was after other peoples' thoughts and more information to the validity of it.

That dude needs his head seriously examined to say the least. Destroying D3's was his pastime, not he's moved on to the D700....give me a friggen break. the guy was dropped on his head at birth and lived. That's about it........."nothing to see here...move on"

I actually left a message on his youtube page that he was spreading rumors and there was no such release given by nikon for a D700 recall.

He promptly responded back with this:

"Next time, read the video description because it explains why Nikon don't announce it publicly.

By the way, you violated my channel's rules so I'm having your profile blocked from this channel. Have a nice day."

I don't know what planet he lives on, but I hope the weather is nice. BTW - NPS is aware of this guy. That last video borders on libel.

20 years old and has a Masters in Professional Photography? At that age, very few have a Bachelor's degree in anything. But at least he chose Professional photography over Amateur Photography.

Even if those problems were real, almost everyone of them can be fixed with a software upgrade and Nikon would not stop production because of it. I think this clown searched all the photography sites and took anything anyone has ever complained about, whether it made sense or not, and put it all together.

Futhermore, he writes:

My name is Joseph but you can call me Joe or Joey. I am a professional photographer and a Brooks Institute of Photography graduate with Master's Degree in Professional Photography and Visual Journalism. I am currently working as the Director of Photography for National Geographic Magazine of Western Coast.

Assuming that he's talking about the "western coast" of the United States, there is no person named Joseph listed in the photography area of the masthead of National Geographic.

I careful to look at sign language and caption. Not 100 percent same.
He signed "New Tech". Not see any word "New Tech"

Looks to me as if Brooks Institute is giving away master degrees in photography. I tell you this guy is going to get into serious legal problems with Nikon if they decide to take him to court.
As if this was already bad enough, he dreams he is working for National Geographic. This could also get him into trouble if indeed there is such a position as "Director of the Western Coast." Hey, even Brooks Institute of Photography could be chasing him for saying silly things over the Internet and claiming he graduated from them.
He has to know that what he is doing is not right and lacks the decency of professional ethics. If he does not know that, then his "master" should be revoked. His answer to Brian lacks also the most elemental rules of decency and respect.
In short, could he be working for Canon?
William.

William,

We've determined that he is immature, a likely pathological liar and starved for attention. I think this rules out that he is working for Canon. JMHO. My take: he's just a complete nut job!

I was kind of put off by that video too...
He had some cool vids with him throwing a D3 from first floor onto the ground and one with pouring some liquids on a D3 with a 24-70/2.8.
I am most certain he is no director of anything, i feel very sorry for the guy..

So, no one confirms this?! Cause in this case i'll postpone my D700 purchase no further...

Perhaps he's Ken Rockwell's illegitimate child.

My D700 rocks, no probs yet other than having to upgrade to Lightroom 2 to read RAWs...

There's no way this guy works for Canon. You think that Canon woud be related with someone who illegally uses logos, titles, and can be taken to court for Libel?

You should not buy it! Everything he says is true. And I am the East Coast Director of Photography for NG and the master of ceremonies at Renssalaer.
