Can anyone recommend a good and compatible teleconverter for the Canon 60mm macro lens, if there is one. I would like a little more magnification, and also some more working distance (extension tube?).

I am not familiar with the 60mm Macro. So, my point is general in nature. Extension tube will reduce your working distance and for that you will get a greater image magnification. To get a little more magnification but keep the distance the same, you can indeed add a teleconverter. I am not sure about the resulting image quality of this combo and for sure, you loose the speed of your lens. Canon's own TCs, both the 1.4X and 2.0X, are more designed to be used for longer L lenses, having longer focal lengths than 60mm. I believe the shortest lens that can be used with Canon TC is the 135mmL. You have to look into Tamron/Kenko/Sigma offering for that. Just make sure that it is compaible with your lens. Good luck!

There are a few options but with each there are trade-offs. If you are working with a tripod and stationary subjects you may not be affected by the trade-offs, but they are there.

With the extension tubes you lose distant focus but you gain some magnification and decrease your minimum focus distance.

The teleconverters have optics and with short lenses you risk a collision with your rear lens element and potential damage to the lens(es). A teleconverter will increase the magnification if the macro lens can safely accommodate it, if not, you might be able to add an extension tube between the lens and teleconverter to provide a buffer between elements. I have done this with a 50mm compact macro but cannot confirm this is possible with the 60mm with 1:1.

A third option is to use a magnification filter to your lens filter mount. It's been a while and I have forgotten the Canon name for them, but I believe they are the 250 and 500 series close-up lenses. You definitely lose some focus ability on the long end but they are compact and compatible with all lenses.

With all options you may be limited to manual focus and you will lose some light transmission (full or partial stops).
