if all goes right, I'll have a D700 in my hot little hands. That's the plan anyway assuming that Nikon sticks to it's worst case July 25th shipping date. My dealer (whose list I'm #1 on all paid for) said so far this is still what the rep is telling them. They ordered 2nd day shipping as well, so hopefully the brown truck gets it right. My lenses are all ready to go. I'm not even one who has patience, but in this case I have NO choice. OH well....the waiting is something else. |

Im glad your excited, however, I'm a little confused on the point of this post. Are you asking about the D700's ship date? |

Actually Nikon DID have that official release date of July 25...that's old news. My dealer mearly confirmed it has not changed with the rep. I just hope it holds as my patience isn't long. |

If you need a camera body now, why not just buy a D3? Is the size/weight critical? |
|
traveler Registered: Jan 08, 2002 Total Posts: 2459 Country: United States |
Tell ya what EB....if you let me use your VISA card for a $1500 charge with no strings attached I'd be GLAD to pick up a D3 and be done with it. That's no small hurdle to get past however, so I'll stick with my original plan. Sure was tempting however....just can't muster the $$ up. |

You gotta get out and actually shoot some pictures Lee. Sure cameras have their faults, but how can you even learn to love one when you are constantly lusting after the next body? |

Well, Tom, I probably would not have done it this quickly, but I'm going in for PRK surgery (eyes) here very soon. I've got a condition called "Map Dot Dystrophy" and my prescription has been changing literally weekly, so it's a real hassle. The laser is supposed to be the best option as it takes care of that layer of the cornea that is the culprit. The side benefit is I won't need glasses for distance, only reading, so that will be interesting if successful. I've worn glasses since I was 10 (now 54). There will be about a month of visual transition, so I felt if I was going to make the leap to FF now was the time. You can understand that I'm sure. I did use the D300 for a wonderful trip to Southern Utah (found at the Southern Utah gallery at www.pbase.com/traveler) so it's not like I didn't use the bodies I've had. I'm also very glad to have accumulated the right glass. I have the 14-24 and 24-70, 50mm f1.4D and 70-300vr waiting for it. I ordered a SB-900 to go along with the package, figured what the heck might as well have the latest most compatible flash technology as well. Wish me good fortune on the laser surgery. I sure hope this works because there aren't many options...... |

Wait wait wait wait. You figure now is the time to spend $4000 on camera equipement right before you have eye surguery? Im not sure how you came up with that one, lol. If it was me, I'd keep my gear and make sure everything after surguery works how it should. But on the other hand everyone has different incomes, so... |

I am trying not to think about it. I have already committed my money, but distract myself with other things while I wait. Otherwise I would be a nervous wreck. |

Well, Mr. Horne, all I can tell you is the rep for Pixels here in SLC said it's still on for a shipping date of July 25th. Got that update yesterday. As for the OTHER Ben, I prepaid for the camera and flash (SB-900) just to take it off my plate. As for expense I have insurance that should cover most of the surgery fortunately, so I'm not going to derail this process as I'm fully expecting a great outcome from the surgery. |

Traveler, good luck with your surgery. I had PRK done as well. I didn't have any condition other than just plain bad eyesight. I was a borderline candidate due to thickness of my cornea. I also got lucky to have one of the best Army eye surgeon's do it. I don't know if he still moonlights but if you're in Washington I can find out. My experience, the first several days you will not be able to go outside (too bright). I was driving again 7-12 days later. Halos went away slowly, took a couple months for them to go away completely. 4 years later....my vision is 20/20 or better, no issues whether up close or far away. I wish the same for you. PRK is tougher on the patient than the normal surgery but the benefits are better. |
