I don't know if any of you ever check out the Sports forum... I know I haven't had that many occasions to venture over there, so I wanted to share a couple of shots that I posted there over the weekend.

I am so pleased with these words can't explain. When I opened these files late last Friday night I was just stunned with what I captured. I'm not bragging, I'm talking about the shear quality of the images at ANY size. I printed them at 13 x19 and they are, without a doubt, the best files I have generated out of a DSLR...

It has been a long journey for us Nikon owners to where we are now. I'm glad I hung in there.

Thanks for looking.

Terry

Terry I feel the same way Its really nice when all the pieces of the puzzle sink into place. I still enjoy shooting with my D2X but there is something special about the D3. Great Shots!

Thanks DJ ... glad you like them. The colors are what got me, and the total lack of noise at ISO 640.

Yeah, this is pretty cool... I have my D2x also, and I still have a great deal of respect for it. It's no slouch, that's for sure.

Thanks for looking

Thanks so much Don. I see you come from the 4x5 era too. Quite a transition isn't it. These are some great times for photographers... every year a new thrill it seems.

I appreciate you stopping by to comment.

Nice shots. But this is why, back in the film days, we didn't use Velvia for people. It yielded contrasty tones and saturated colors; great for landscapes and yes, drag cars. But it wasn't as flattering for skin tones as, for example, Astia was. The cars are your primary subjects and they look great as processed. So my only nitpick would be to turn down the saturation on the crews / spectators.

Ted you are dead on on the skin tones. I shot these with a custom Vivid setup so the processing, except for sharpening and cropping were done in camera.

I have set up a custom (to my liking) Neutral color setup, and if I have the presents of mind to remember to switch back and forth (some days I'm sharper than others) I'll apply them appropriately.

Thanks Ted for the very well tuned input.

Hi NightOwl Cat... the number 3 shot is actually a pretty extreme crop of a shot similar to the other two which are also cropped some. I was looking the other day and that driver has a cavity in his right rear molar and that's a load of crop...

Thanks for stopping by.

Yeah the 66 Vette (shot #2) was the fastest qualifier that night, but he crossed the centerline in the final round and was atomatically disqualified. It is a beautiful car... many with all that color look like crap, but this one is so artfully done.

Thanks pointedem.
