Thinking of buying a Beauty Dish for a shoot I have coming up (the studio I am using doesnt own one). I dont do alot of studio work and I dont own any lights (at the moment) besides 2 580's so I was hoping there was a way to mount my 580 into the bowen mount and use the dish effectively, when Im not at the studio. It would also make a pretty decent wireless portable lighting system if it worked (using the st-e2).

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of stuff, I realise its must be a super common question and there would be some pretty decent adapter/brackets out there, but I havent had any luck finding any.

Thanks for your help.

There must be a mount somewhere.

I made my own BD last week out of $10 worth of material. While I'm sure a "real" BD puts out better quality light, this one does a pretty good job.

My somewhat reluctant test subject.

Tried it out on myself. I guess it doesn't work. I'm still ugly.

You could DIY as solution like this for a BD and use a bare bulb (read stofen) diffuser on your flash: http://strobist.blogspot.com/2007/07/diy-ball-bungee-speedlight-soft-box.html That should work ok. Gaffer tape is also your friend

I'm not sure how all dishes mount, but if you can find one with an interchangeable speedring Chimera makes a speed ring just for speedlights you can find on B&H or Photoflex makes this do-hickie. It's inelegant, but I've got one for the XS Softbox, it works fine. You could probably DIY a way to mount it on a dish with the strobe head sticking through the hole.

This guy did exactly what you want:
