I saw the nest early this winter. I found the mother on nest 2-3 weeks ago. Left it alone to find this today. Any guess how old and how long before they fly off? I believe there is another that is smaller back further in the nest. ![]() Where is agent Mulder? ![]() |

I'm observing a nest of my own in Southern Arizona. I'm not expert on Red Tail Hawk Fledging, but from what I've researched it appears that it's about 47 days from hatching to fledging (defined as being able to perch on a nearby tree). My guess is that the chicks you're seeing are about 2 weeks old, maybe less. I've observed my nest twice, once on the 10th and then again on the 17th. On the 10th, they looked like white fuzz balls like you show here. Last week the remaining chick was gray and starting to show darker striations. So my guess is that yours are a week behind mine. |
