OK, so after blowing a wad on the Fuji S2 and etceteras...I'm reading Real World Color Management (I really like it too, good good book).

Anyway, I thought I was home free with my decision to go with Eye-One Display for my monitor. So I go over to "colormall" and there are 2 versions...one with Profile Maker and one without.

The profile maker version lists "Luminance adjustment" and "Iterative calibration for neutral gray balances and shadow details" (monitor calibration) in addition to the functionality of the plain Eye-One Display.

I thought luminance adjustment of the monitor meant white point? (You crank up your contrast-where else can you adjust a monitors' luminance?) Is this worth an extra $150?

If so, should these features not be in the monitor calibration package either way?

Jan, I don't see anything about a version of Eye-One Display with Profile Maker at the i1 website. There's an Eye-One Pro Bundle but I never thought of that as Eye-One Display.

BTW, I have Eye-One Display and I've been very pleased with it.

Hi rdonson: The only place I've seen the 2 separate packages is at colormall. I'm going to call GretagMacbeth Monday and ask them what the difference is. I didn't see it on GM's website either. PM is their "Profile Maker" software which is not listed separately on GM's website.

Thanks for the reply and I'll buy it either way, but was wondering if the "PM" package offered more in the way of "fine tuning".

JAN if your interested in the eye-one display do a search on google for same and on the first page you will see a link to b&h for a special price of 199.00.I was going to order for the regular 249 price so I saved 50 bucks.

Hank, a part of the reason I went with the eye-one is that Drycreek Photo will calibrate your printer for $99.00 and they use GretagMacbeth. There's no way I'm either spending $2500.00 for a printer calibration package or hand-measuring 750 or so little squares *g*
