Diane Varner has one of the most successful and well visited photoblogs in the world.....and rightly so. She is a photographer and artist and that combination of skills has been a match made in heaven. Her work is quite beautiful and can be seen here: http://www.dianevarner.com/

She has been kind enough to post a technique she uses which includes screencaps of a very popular image she recently posted. The instructions can be seen here: http://dianevarner.com/technique_2.html

I thought forum members might like to see this.

Am I the only one who prefers the original?

No :-)

I am a huge fan/practitioner of PP'ing. But it's just a matter of taste and the artist chose to evoke other emotions. Her pp'd version is lovely. Dark, mysterious, painterly. But the original is equally beautiful. Gorgeous lighting and a perfect exposure, full of nuance and detail.

I suppose she wanted to go down the road less travelled. Kudos to her as this shot could easily have gone to a "glowing-sunshine-happy" place. How boring would that have been? And how like a thousand others?

And huge kudos to her for sharing her technique publicly. There are far too few who do...

I find the original dead, almost washed out with no 'pop' to it. Love the final product.
