Won't be a D90, it will be a D60X. It will sell for a few hundred more than the D60, but offer a much better sensor, ala the D300. It came to me while I was doing my milk and cookies and reading the latest from Popular Photography.

I just sold my D 80 so I can get as second body similar in output to my D300.

I wouldn't be surprised.

Noise has been a major sore spot up until the D300. A move like that would fix the problem. It'd also make a darn near perfect travel camera.... mmmm....

I thought someone here said it was going back to film I sold all my DX lenses and D200 in anticipation. Was this a rash thing to do

Maybe the D60x will get a modern AF system?

The D40/x/60 has a modern AF system. It's the modern way of putting in a AF system on a low-end body Single cross sensor in the middle, two sensors beside it, what more does one need to be a happy clam?

An interesting thought.

Indeed, I'd actually be as happy with the D60's AF unit as any other Nikon body up to and including the D200. Simple reason, the only sensor I'd ever use is the centre cross sensor.

Now the D2 series or the D3/D300 is another thing entirely, much better AF units.

that would be the worst news...
Nikon already created a mess with the D40 and D40x, most reviewers selecting the D40 as far better than the D40x, even though its sensor was only 6.1MP.

I can not believe that they want to try to fool customers by releasing a D60x, and marketing it based on some additional MP?

I am waiting for the D90 to replace my good but old D70, if it does not come as rumored, and expected, I might have to move to D300, but then with less lenses, or move to Canon...
Only one month to go, to know if your forecasting turns true, but I hope not...

My D70s was one of the best cameras I have ever worked with, a battleship picture taking machine

Noooooooooooooooooooo.............

Not another eunuch consumer body without screw-drive AF.....

This makes no sense when you realize that people are waiting on a D80 replacement - which means full functionality.

It seems like the D50 has become MORE popular after the release of the D40 - people wanted the small body but WITH full AF capability.... I went out and got one for my wife who wanted a smaller replacement for her D70 but found the D40 rather 'limiting'
