I just ordered a couple of lenscaps to replace the ones I lost recently. I have been thinking about drilling tiny holes in the cap and attatching it to the lens with a small piece of clear fishing string. Other than leaving them home on shoots, anyone else have ay ideas on how to secure their lenscaps?

You can actually buy little leashes for your caps

but man, I found them to be a PITA hanging from you lens and always getting in the way... Your time may be better spent, buying a little lowepro belt case and conditioning yourself to get in the habit of ALWAYS putting it in the case immediately after removal....

Best Luck,

My lens cap ALWAYS goes in the right front pants pocket. It's so automatic now that I occasionally fool myself - the other day I jumped out of the car, grabbing the camera at the same time in order to take a picture of a hawk catching a rabbit (I missed, the hawk didn't). Anyway, after about a 10 second shooting frenzy I started looking for where I must have dropped the lens cap. Under the car? Nope. On the seat? Nope. Still in the bag? Nope. After about 2 minutes of looking the wife asked if I had checked my pocket. Except for marrying me, that's one smart woman.

Peace,

Todd

Good habits will prevent the loss of the various small items.

I just sold a lens that had the lens cap attached to the lens by an elastic loop imilar to that linked above. It did get quite annoying dangling just where your hand wanted to cup the lens. I'm a back left pocket man myself - surprisingly I've never broken one when I sit down either.

Pocket all the way. Sometimes a jacket, sometimes pants, all depends on which is easier to get to. Always find them though!

Good habits. I always place the lens cap in the left front pocket or in my bag right where the lens normally resides. Check pocket, check bag, it's always in one of those two spots.

When I don't leave 'em in my camera bags, they're in my front pockets...along with my wallet & car key.

I pocket them too. Still, over time I've lost some. But dangling strings and the like are still more trouble than they are worth.

Front pocket for me too depending on which hand I grab the camera with first but always in a front pocket.

I'm normally pretty good at not losing my lens caps, but these images show the circumstances of why I lost them. In the first image I saw these two tornados and I had to chase them to get the shot! Between the wind and the action of jumping in and out of my minivan I lost a lens cap. The second image shows the playground at Sea World in Orlando. I thought it would be a "cool idea" if I climbed up to the third floor of the netted playground with my daughter and my D1X. Unfortunately I didn't realize that the only way down was to climb nets and crawl through long tubes. Not only did I loose my lenscap, I was also sore for a week! I also came to the realization that I am not as young as I thought I was!
