I'm not sure if it's mentioned here yet. What's your thought on this?

Is this Canon's "Nikon D40". I was pretty sure the xxxD was as low as Canon was going to go...who knows though. Powershot dSLR?

Probably will not get too hyped up in this forum since most of us own a more advanced SLR. However, it's a good move by Canon. You win the DSLR battle in the entry level, so the more/better cheap bodies available the better it is for Canon.

Maybe an ultra cheap, ultra plasticky 8-10MP body, that only comes in silver and has lots of green and red LED lights to make it look like a toy.

Maybe Canon will follow Nikon here and pull out the internal motor so you will only get AF with USM lenses. I hope it's not suprisingly good, since I just ordered an XSi!

Not sure I understand what you mean, but I think all EF lenses have focus motor inside them; USM is just a kind of motor, that is faster (and of course, among USM lenses, there is a lot of variation in AF speed as well... but that is another matter).

This is excellent news for 1.6x users. The current xxD & xxxD are too closely specified. This will allow canon to 'beef up' the 50D closer the the D300 (meaning more AF points?).

Mind you, I'd imagine this hyperthetical new camera might upset some 1 series users with it's probable new advanced software - face recognition, smile recognition, bad hair day technology (tm)* etc


*Bad hair day reduction technology works a little like red eye reduction, by detecting dodgy barnets. Picture Styles will be replaced with uploadable Hair Styles - and the new DPP will include Hair Style editor.

You are correct, Mr. Rival. No EOS body has a focus motor.

Who says this is going to be a 1.6x crop? I wouldn't be surprised to see an even smaller sensor with an EF mount...and that would certainly drive the price down...

I doubt Canon will introduce smaller sensor but you'd never know...

Maybe have some logic to determine if lens based IS is available and use it, otherwise use the in camera IS.

It's a low end camera with an improved live view AF system and with a 3.5 '' screen.
Canon made sure to include some lovely video games in it, so you can enjoy your LCD.
