I would post the two together.

I think it needs some cropping to reduce the distractions.

I think too much saturation - hard to tell with this low res post.

Tough shooting in such bright sun. If you can use a flash for fill.

I think its fine as is. Face has so much character, this works well. However, you have some disinterested folks in the background. If that's OK as a capture of the scene as is, leave it.
If I were to crop I'd eliminate the yellow shirted man on left entirely, and crop from the right just enough to eliminate the skin from the woman in the blue dress.

I think Scott is right in showing that a closer crop works better. The lighting is tough with the strong contrasts.

I guess I am tainted by what HDTV looks like in some of my photos contrasty,maybe a lil over saturated due to the fact I shot this in JPEG not raw,but I made the jump to RAW as of today.
I took some photos of a friend and PP with DPP and wow is all I can say,I do have a copy of photoshop cs3 maybe Ill give that a try.
