I got my Zeiss S 60mm/2.8 for a replacement of my C 60mm/2.8.
The S 60mm/2.8 looks much better to me. i mount it on my 40D using Non AF confirm C/Y adapter to EOS.
However, when i shoot at f2.8 in AE mode, the photo is very dark then brighter from 4 to 8 ( i havent got a chance to try smaller aperture ). It does the same when i shoot at M mode at apterture compensation = 0.
Does anyone knows what happen? I used to shoot with C 60mm and i never found this problems

try a different metering mode, center usually works best.

I realised that i use spot metering when shooting with it. however over all result still darker than C 60mm in the same condition of light.
Can you explain why the photo becomes darker when spot metering is in use?

Get an AF cofirm adapter from HappypageHK with the correct exif data (focal length and max aperture). I find that usually resolves any exposure errors... Except with my distagon 28mm, for whatever that's worth.

All adapted lenses have required a certain amount of gut feeling exposure comp, the more stopped down, the more overexposure i got, the more EC i obviously gave.
Not sure how you end up darker wide open though, never experienced that.
If i used a confirm chip or not had no impact on this metering error.

Rather than metering the whole scene, you meter a small area, you will notice over and under exposure if the spot you meter is much brighter or darker than the rest of the scene.

i have tried to use the lesn with an AF adapter today, i realised that the camera recognise the lens is set at F2.0, when i use the Non AF adapter, the aperture is set at 00, means there is no lens attatched to the camera ( i guess ). Perhaps, that's the reason why the result become darks. HOwever, i have same problems like Daniel Goller, the more stop down, the more over-exposure. I've never have this nightmare with CZ 28,2.8 ; 35,2.8 ; 50,1.4; 85,1.4; C 60/2.8, all in AF confirm adapter.
Can anyone tell me why this S 60mm T* become over-exposure and how to get it fixed

To my understanding of using manual lenses on Canon FF bodies, there is no choice in different metering modes.

As far as I can see, the 5D and the 1DsMkIII will always use center-weighted average whatever your preset is when there is no electronic identification of an EF lens.

Since this question is somehow basic to every discussion and topic here on this board, I would very much like this to be definitely verified.

I get different readings for different metering modes when using alternative glass on my 5D.

So I think the "modes" don't have much to do with the lens, its the in-body light sensor.
