Why does anyone need a 24-70 in IS?

And about changing over to Nikon.

I've got over $20,000 just in glass.

So unless Nikon either demonstrates a quantum improvement over Canon or unless Nikon gives me free equipment or at least a substantial discount or my clients buy me new equipment, I'm not changing.

Oh and CPS has always treated me good.

So I'm staying Canon

So it hasn't come across your mind that the US$ is weak compared to the Yen?

On the bright side, Canon prices in the Netherlands (Europe - Euro) have actually dropped in the last year, by quite a margin. Nevertheless you guys in the US still have it cheap, by a big margin.

Only wish I could by my gear at US prices!

Because some people value IS even in the shorter focal lengths and don't want to give up fast aperture for that.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

Yeah, They still have some of the cheapest prices on gear in the world, And yet they still complain!

just out of curiousity, since you said your friend was "well respected and is considered a reliable source", has he ever provided any info that was accurate?

I am not posting such threads often. Only when I think it is a reliable source. This photographer has indeed provided info in the past that was accurate but it is mostly Nikon related. Only when announcement is close and beta cameras are abundant enough for the Nikon shooters to notice them and report back to Nikon management, does he know things about Canon. Please note that the details are incredibly thin. Two cameras that are logically to be announced soon and indication that there are 2 new lenses. No details on focal length, aperture, weight price etc.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

Since I know that person [TED], I can judge he was accurate only about 20% to 30% of his rumored predictions.

BTW, TED himself titles his predictions as nothing but a "A Wave of new Rumors [which landed on his desk...]"
For those of you who can read Hebrew, here's a link to the original rumor:

My estimation is much higher. About opposite.

a. That person had NEVER posted rumors on Canon equip.
b. That person has NO inside Canon info.

All that said, it is quite feasible [by now] that it is due time that Canon launches a successor to 5D, be it June, Aug, or Sept 2008.

ok thanks for the info. I wasn't really expecting much from a rumour - just trying to gauge from Yakim the "salinity" of the rumour. - the previous April 22 one was a complete dud - it was probably someone's wish list although i was still looking out for it.

the June release date strikes me as odd since I do not recall any camera released in June

The June date is basically the "strength" of this rumor, since it uses a logical assumption that the "2008 Olympic Games" will accelerate the normal launch date ...

If you remember, it was the 30D and the 5D that was announced in June 2005. The 5D to be available in August 2005. That was the error of my ways to buy the 30D to save money. Wrong, I have since rectified that situation.

The 30D was announced on Feb 21, 2006. The 5D was announced on August 22, 2005.

The 5D was announced on August 22, 2005.

The 5D was first available in the U.S the last week of October 2005. I received mine 3 weeks later.

Here in the Netherlands there is a € 200,- cash back on the 5D, till 30 June.
A late June announcement could be possible.

Makes sense to time it before the Olympics ... all those white lenses (and make the 200 and 800 available) plus a new body to pitch ...

People who haven't used the new EF 200mm f/2L IS USM yet report that it backfocuses at infinity. For $6,000 you'd think the rumored quality control would be better. That's why I'm switching to Nikon whose rumored products always work perfectly before anyone uses them.

Well, maybe its worth bearing in mind that between the 28th and 30th June in Barcelona the EISA panel decide on the products to be awarded. Brand new products will only be accepted if they have been available for detailed testing before 1 June (latest delay) by at least 5 member magazines of the Panel concerned. In addition, awarded products must also be for sale to the general public no later than 10 September in the year of the EISA Awards in at least 10 European countries.

Having said that the 1D Mark III was awarded an EISA which, with its reported issues, doesn't mean an EISA award gives product confidence but manufacturers do like to have EISA awards.

It's all relative, isn't it? Our gas prices are amongst the lowest the world but everyone in the country is up in arms about the ridiculous pricing at the pumps! Truth of the matter is, prices could and should be lower!
