Tornado threatens South Plains, Texas on June 5, 1995.

And, for anyone interested, a few images of Westminster Abbey are posted at Fred Miranda here.

Hugh,

Yes, it was a scary storm. Within 1/2 hour of this photo, the storm produced a large wedge tornado. I found myself on the wrong side of the storm's updraft and didn't get a clear view of the monster tornado it produced.

More info on the storm is here.

And, you can see photos of the wedge tornado here.
Remember, the date was June 5, 1995.

Hi Sam,
We moved to Texas in early June of 1995. What a crazy year that was for storms - and relocating! Thanks for the memories.

Your photographs, website and the information you provide is awesome!

Where in South Plains? I think that silo is somewhere near Plainview. I grew up in Lubbock and remember these happening all the time . I remember playing a little league game when I was younger; the coach didn't want to cancel the game because, "it's just a funnel cloud." Only in West Texas.

Lynn, It was a wild month!

Hunter, Yes it is actually South Plains, Texas. I was south of town about between 1/4 and 1/2 mile. Go to Google Earth and input the following coordinates:

N34 13'27", W101 18'27"

You'll see the shadow of the grain elevator in the image, along with the other buildings.
