Good effort, the Dave Hill/HDR style treatment definitely works for this type of subject matter. Who said you can't use HDR on portraits? Oh yeah, quite a lot of people in this forum

Did you use multiple exposures on the model as well as the background? Looks like it in #3 and #4 but in #1 he looks a bit 'stuck on' - it could just be the web conversion. You could merge/wrap the edge a little more.
