The situation has remained extremely tense in Nairobi over the past few days. This is an image taken soon after an opposition MP was assassinated. Angry young men were gathering in the streets of Kibera slum in Nairobi when I took this image of a young girl coming out of her house. The graffiti on the stairs is representative of messages that are appearing all over Nairobi's slums. This image is part of a documentary project to shed light on the impact of the current crisis on vulnerable groups. Since starting it, I have been joined by two Kenyan freelance photographers, and together we will be ramping up our efforts in the days to come.

With best regards, Spyros

Hi Spyros.

A more interesting image.

Nice composition. The graphics are a good catch. The expression seems to be one of caution and natural.

The face (and photo in general) seems 'soft' to me.
Perhaps it has not been sharpened yet?

Or it may be the web reduction.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the feedback Steady. I've increased sharpening on the image - does this look better?

Cheers, Spyros

Spyros,

Thanks for posting this, it just saddens me to see the expression on this young girls face.

My Kenyan friends now say that Kenya is teetering on the edge of civil war. Most dreadful news.

Stay safe

Nice image,

While she is not as sharp as you may want, it is a strong enough of an image that the lack of sharpness on the subject is in my eyes not a big deal.

Thanks for sharing these images!

Many thanks for your comments. This was my first visit to Kibera so I was trying to reduce the time I had my eye to the viewfinder. Some shots were affected by slight camera shake, like this one. Upcoming visits will hopefully give me more time to plan and execute the shots. Regards, Spyros
