There are many fantastic herp (reptile and amphibian) images residing deep within this macro board.

These closeup pictures rarely fall into any sort of standardized category, and can be successfully shot with almost any lens under the sun.

Maybe we can post here, a herp shot every day, to learn about the species and also the creativity behind the shot. I'll try to jump in around 2pm EST every day, incase no one posts, but feel free to post yours up!

Green Tree Python. This guy represents the epitome of selective breeding within the realm of chondro pythons.

Tom, your chondro shots give me chills when I look at them. The sharpness and the DOF on the scales is wild!

Dalantech, thanks for the comments. I am a dated lurker and reader of your blog.

Great pics, as always =)

milmoejoe: Cool shot, very well composed. I think a bit more DOF would push it over the edge, maybe f16-ish.

Tom: Great shot, love the wrap-around lighting.

Love the frog - marvellous light and composition and of course one of Tom's wonderful snakes with slightly unusual lighting.

Had one to share, shot at Clev OH Rain Forest behind glass. Unique shaped head.

Green Vine Snake
Scientific Name: Oxybelis fulgidus

Description: An exceedingly slender snake with a round body and very long tail. The head is usually elongated and pointed. May reach over 4 feet in length. These animals are back-fanged, i.e. there is a set of venom producing, specialized, grooved fangs towards the rear of the mouth. Diurnal, arboreal. Blend in with the foliage, and as the name implies, resemble vines in the trees and bushes. They take a position on a branch and wait, motionless, for their prey. After biting they hold on to their prey until it succumbs to their venom.

Hey guys... I'm going in my basement to find a snake

Incredible shots. Joe, the frog compo is wonderful. Tom, the glamor snake is one of the more emotional shot that I ever seen...

Tom, great detail in the eyes...something I've never thought to really take into consideration before.

Great shot Karl, angle from left corner works out well...really suits the personality of that snake!

The winter season has been a bit slow, in which I've revisited a number of old folders. I've started to tinker with old photos that would have normally found themselves in the trash bin. I'm sure it's a controversial edit, but I sometimes like the way it turns out.

Think I lost some serious color here with changing the color profile!
(As with the last frog image as well)
