My dear Mark, our entire family would like to show you how much we regret the loss of both your uncle and Kelsey in such a short span of time. Not a whole lot to say other than "we're sorry", but we know that soon the pain will mellow, and you'll be left with a lifetime of memories to cherish.

After a lot of reading about how the older stuff has trouble dealing with the newer-tech displays, I ended up with an i1 Display from X-Rite. Can't for the life of me remember all the stuff I read, but I'm happy with how it performs and how it calibrated my dual Asus 24" ProArts.

Mmm, we have different appreciations of it then. The Piaggio is the only airplane so far that's made Daniela stop cold on a ramp and say, "Honey, what does one of those cost, and can we get one?"

I love its looks too, and really appreciate the three-lifting-surface design for its aerodynamic efficiency and elegance. 400 knots in a turboprop is nothing to sneeze at, either. The downsides are a $6.5M price, a very narrow front office due to the aforementioned drag profile, and the "demented chainsaw on nitromethane" sound. Most people love the looks of an Avanti... I don't know anyone who likes the sound.

I like the sound!

No doubt the Avanti is an interesting and unique looking aircraft. But based on my limited (one example) I was amazed at how much the pilot/owner could actually sound like his aircraft. Kind of put me off.

Here's a screen capture from the Hero 3. My first impression is the footage is substantially better than the 2. Not necessarily much sharper, but some. More the 24p frame rate combined with overall quality of the capture. The imagery from the Hero 3 looks much more like it was captured with a higher end video camera. It definitely has a different look. More tests to come.


I too got a Hero 3 Black and I am enjoying playing around with it.

Couple things. Update the firmware....it makes the camera a little less flakey. Also get the bacpak battery and soon. Man the battery life is bad on the 3.

Been playing around with 60, 120 and 240 FPS....it sure does look good and slow when played back at 30 fps.

This camera is going to be a lot of fun.

Also, it takes great video under water and the time lapse features are a lot of fun too.

Looking forward to what you guys can do with these camera's while flying.

Hi John, Welcome back! Yes, the update is imperative as is the battery booster. The 3 might not have been quite ready for prime time when it was released, but it's a pretty amazing little box when you think about it.

One of JR's clients demo'd an Avanti six months ago. The guy is a pilot, has had several King Airs, a CJ Citation, a Beechjet and some pistons. He spent 40 minutes in the Avanti and asked to be let out asap. Everyone is different, don't like the looks at all, and 6.5M opens a lot of doors in the aviation world. The people looking in that market haven't voted for the Avanti in any significant numbers because the company continues to struggle.
