Another wonderful image and strong motion shot. I think I am slowly starting to get the hang of these effects thanks to you guys.

Much obliged Steve!

This was interesting to shoot. I first spent about an hour trying to devise a method to attach the bullet to a piece of wire, and have it stand on its own. I ended up drilling a hole in the bullet casing and inserting the wire, heating the wire it with a torch to melt the lead inside to help hold it on. A big lump of clay held the wire to a table with a black cloth behind it.

The vapor trail was actually fairly easy. I remembered that spraying a compressed air canister upside-down shoots off a lot of liquid with a big exciting WHOOSH. So after having shot my hand and bullet together I removed the bullet and wire from the table, and without changing lighting positions shot the vapor from the can. In Photoshop I cloned out the wire, converted to B&W using the channel mixer and toned using curves. To add the vapor trail I merely placed it as a layer with the blending mode set to lighten.

This was lit with an SB-26 as an optical slave about three feet left of the camera. Triggered with the on-board-flash of my D50 at the lowest setting

Cheers!
Jason

Pretty cool. I'm glad that you explained your method for putting this image together. Very clever!

See Jason and that is why you are one of the Stand outs. In order to make great shots, you have to do some crafty work to pull it off. Just another reiteration to the next level of shooting I want to attempt. Thanks so much for sharing the information.

This shot is convincing enough to make me wince - Wow. Thanks for the explanation, since I would have otherwise worried about your present state of health. Brilliant! -Amy

The shot is spectacular, very successful.
Thanks so much for sharing your setup !
I wonder if the hand is not to close to the right border. Maybe it would be better in the last dividing vertical third line.

Cheers,

Julien

Hey thanks again Steve. Although I think I merely stand out because of my lack of fashion sense...

I can't take all the credit though, I couldn't have done this without the help of all the helpful photographers on this site. I think I had a few shots from the WA board in mind when I created this, particularly some of (Viper)Mike's work. (Thanks for the inspiration Mike, hope you don't mind! )

Thank you Amy! The only injury sustained in the making of this shot was when I jabbed my thumb trying to drill a hole in the casing. (I was foolish enough not to go and find the proper tools )

Thank you Julien. I had a hard time deciding on composition, and it was getting late so I posted as is. I'll give your suggestion a shot, thanks!

Thank you Jouko, actually I don't think this took me much over an hour and a half all told, thankfully I had everything I needed on hand.

Another fantastic shot, (Pun Intended ) Jason!! I reiterate all that everyelse has said. My only technical complaint might be that it looks to me like you have the entire shell casing flying toward your hand as opposed to the just lead bullet, which would be all that comes out the barrel. The casing would simply be ejected from the gun. Certainly well done, though.

All best wishes,

Endre
