Minolta MC Rokkor 58/1.2 wide open on 5D at ISO 100:

I still can't get over how bloody sharp this lens is, even wide open:

100%

And here's the original, un-cropped, colour version, just to show that this particular lens has absolutely no issue with colour and contrast wide open, either:

...and just to leave no doubts whatsoever...

Rokkor 58/1.2 wide open on 5D at ISO 100:

50% (which is how I judge how big I can print a photo...in this case, pretty damn large )

This was at 3200 iso with the Oly40. The 1Ds3 is great in low light. Small pixels and 14 bit give great tone.

Brainiac

From these files it would appear the 1DsMkIII is a winner. Sadly I don't have a MkII so I can't comment on differences, improvements etc. I know you are somewhat of a Canon expert so what is your opinion of the value of the upgrade to a MkII

I have just gotten the CV Nokton 58 1.4 for the D300 and will be doing serious testing with it. Between it and the 40 2.0 asph these two little beauties make a very small kit. Will be interesting to see the comparisons with the Rokkor 58. Wish I had one for comparison. (I have a 5D also so I could do both side by side.

Nice pics, but geez, are you guys on 30" monitors or something? It's hard to evaluate pis when I have to scroll in all directions to see something that smaller crops could communicate just as effectively.

Love the frost, Arne... Had the same yesterday when I returned home from Turku. Not in Turku, though - it adorned planes and runway in Munich and made for an abrupt end of the trip. Had to go home by rental car and still didn't get my luggage. The ice is stunningly beautiful, though.

OK. A little something for the holiday season. This features our new puppy. He's a Portuguese Water Dog who is currently about 12 weeks old.

A jaw-dropper, no doubt. And a cute kid and dog. The dog looks very much like a teddybear I have. Adorable!

wow that Rokkor rocks! I want one. Who can mod it for me? Does it even need a mod for 1D series?

I can do the mod. PM or e-mail me. (Yes, it needs a mod for any EOS body)

P.S. FM rocks now, thanks to you. Cheers!

PM me if you'd like to discuss getting one and having me convert it. I could even coach anyone through the conversion if they'd prefer.

Sorry about that. I tried a smaller version and it didn't quite have the impact that a 50% file does. I wanted to make sure there was no doubt how much detail and contrast this lens has wide open. I am simply overwhelmed by it. I'll keep them smaller in the future.
