Canon may have a lot of 5D stock to clear out. They are sure dropping the price fast enough.

I or maybe it will be a 20D to 30D like update, hence the MK LL moniker: larger LCD, digi III, auto clean, larger direct print button with LED, etc.

It would never have been 6D. Firstly that would imply a lower spec model and second they have never used even numbered single digit model names - EOS 1, 3, 5, 7.

Should prove to be interesting speculation.

Maybe canon got phase one to put it in to start all this speculation...... Maybe they will release a totally new model line instead to get everyone really surprised..... or maybe it's just the 5d coming to the end of it's life cycle!

Everyone knows a 5d replacement will come at some point. Is this really that much new?

Interesting. I was at a local dealer yesterday having a "Canon Expo". There were there with all the Canon equipment including several 1Ds Mark IIIs. When asked about the 5D Mark II, the Canon guy in charge said "not anytime soon". When he was asked about February, he didn't say anything but shook his head slightly to say "no" to one of the store employees. May be nothing or that he didn't know, but I sure got the impression that it was going to be awhile before getting anything. And it wasn't like they were trying to sell more 1Ds Mark IIIs, the store already has a list 100 long for it and not expecting that many anytime soon.

Well, considering how Canon mishandled the communication (or lack thereof) regarding the 1D Mark III AF problem leads me to conclude the odds are greater that this sales rep is either a) lying; or b) an idiot, rather than telling the truth.

Couldn't it be that Phase one is leaving a "placemark" in their menus and since they don't know the actual model name they're calling it "5D MkII" for now?

That's more or less my guess. (I noted this earlier.)

This is complete non-news. First, the existence of this designation in a popup menu on a third-party web site doesn't prove much of anything. (As you point out, it could simply be a placeholder.) Second, pretty much everyone is already expecting such a camera - its not like this menu label indicates the existence of a surprising new camera.

Not worth getting too worked up over... :-)

It would also be the first time ever (I think) that Canon would be naming a non-1-series as a mark 2.

I think it is unlikely to be true. I have however been wrong before

Place holder in a pull down menu? Maybe if it was being coded by a high school student in 1990.

When is Capture One expecting to release the software? They expect (perhaps incorrectly) that it will include support for the 5D replacement. Any indication that Canon gives them beta RAW files? Considering all that has happened in the second half of 2007, it seems that Canon would release the new camera in January. But considering their inability to deliver product, who knows.

When selecting 5D II, can you infer anything about the cameras specs? I don't have the software, but one can frequently observe the specs linked to a choice. A common example that many of us here know is the DOF Master software. When you choose your camera type from the pull-down, you can quickly observe what settings it is using to calculate the DOF.

Haha - I love how the above photo was once the Mark II, then the Mark III, and now the Mark IV...just wait till they actually include those features, then what? Huh?! THEN WHAT?!

You know, honestly someone typed all those model names in. There are a lot of Canon models ending in Mk II, so it could just be a typo.

The Canon universe will explode as the Nikon universe implodes. Canon everywhere.

Unfortunatly there are pre production bodies out there and from what I am hearing it is very flawed, I heard from a few people that after using it they are sticking with the original and that the 40D is even a better camera. We'll see what happens, maybe they will work out some bugs before they ship this time

Not suprising considering how close-mouthed Canon has been in the past. Doesn't mean it's not in the hands of several beta-testers somewhere that have signed ND agreements.

I'd expect a "Canon Guy" to be particularly close-mouthed lest the company find out he leaked the info and can him.

BINGO!

The 5D mk2 is being tested out and about by a small number of people. Just like the mark3's were at this point last year. I was surprised Canon didnt release the 1Ds mk3 sooner since it has been ready for a year. Hopefully the 5D mk2 is unleashed in a much tighter schedule if not it wont be available for PMA nad instead well have to wait till summer.

My guess is, Canon is waiting on Nikon to make available their D3 and D300 and then release the new 5D model.

Cant blame them, the current 5D and 1Ds mk2 are still untouched by any other DSLRs.

And they're also still going strong, and are very good.

Tried a 1Ds II yesterday.... reeaaally nice. Then tried my 5D.... reeaaally nice too.
