Just when I thought I had control over my lens "investments", Tokina launches an 11-16mm f/2.8. If it's as good as the 12-24, I suppose I can as well give in and buy. A fast WA was always lacking for the DX format, and this one even takes normal (77mm) filters

indeed, incredibly interesting.... this might cost me some more money

and I hope it will not take them 2 years to get it on the market... and that CA will be under control.

Only 800$...not too shabby considering I spent 600$ on the f/4 12-24. Then again, this only has 5mm of zoom. I wonder how nice the colors, contrast, and sharpness will be.

You're thinking fluoride. Fluorite (Calcium Fluorite, I believe) is the reason that Canon lenses are white.

btw... about the teeth thing... that's a matter of contention.

this looks like a nifty little invention. I hope it compares to the 12-24. I love that lens.

Canon's L-lenses are white to reduce heat absorption, and to make the lenses identifiable. Fluorite is used in the glass elements themselves.

I think flourite is heat-sensitive and can crack when hot enough.

Will be buying one of these. Until then, my Sigma 10-20 will do nicely.

Do you think there will be substantial IQ advantages over the 10-20 besides speed?
