Well, we knew this would start to happen. Some cameras work better after post processing, the D200 is a prime example. And though it is ok, the 24-105 L is not the greatest lens in the world either.... (and from what I'm hearing, the 24 -70 Nikkor very well could be) |

It does appear that Nikon now has better focus, better metering, better lighting system, and now better high ISO. |

the noise it's self might be a bit better on the 1dm3 up iso 800, but in every other way the d3 is just in a different league. |

Better noise? Maybe but we're comparing full frame Nikon vs a cropped Canon dSLR so most expected better noise already. Sharpness? Can't be determined here. 24-105 doesn't even compare to the 28-70 in that regard so the Canon image is already at a disadvantage. If possible someone needs to do a test with the same lens on both cameras using a Nikon to EOS adapter. Pick a sharp prime lens. I like the 1D3 colors in these pics, less yellow cast and yes, my monitor is calibrated. Both cameras are capable of amazing image quality so it doesn't matter to me who wins the challenge. The 1Ds MKIII will beat both cameras in IQ so Canon is still the company to beat for ultimate IQ. For camera features and ergs Nikon is the leader. |

If Canon will still produce better IQ how come the amount of Canon people checking out and replying to the Nikon forum has grew substantially? |

24-70 L should have been used over the 24-105. The 24-105 is much softer than the 24-70 L. |

the OP says that he converted the files. I thought that there was no program including those from nikon that could convert the NEFs froma D3. |

NEF converted with ViewNX, CR2 converted with DPP |

I'll take the noise level of either camera; but, I won't trade the focus and ergonomic of Nikon. I was real glad to see that Nikon didn't scrap the D2Xs body and controls in creating the D3. It should be a pretty easy transition from the D2's to the D3. The Canon Mark II owners were not too happy that the Mark III didn't adopt the Mark II controls/menus. |

Wow really amazing. The D3 blows the Canon out of the water. |

This comparison is so wrong! Firstly, DPP can do a way better job if the user configures it correctly. And secondly, ViewNX was never designed to process RAW files the best way. It is funny how people think that once you use RAW you'll always get better results than the camera JPEG. This is simply not true for today's modern cameras. |

All I have to say is 'wow!', the noise in those D3 images really is the most film grain-like I've ever seen. |
