So a friend of mine said in passing last month that her husband's old leica was just sitting at home because the local camera shop couldn't repair it years ago. I told her I'd take a look and she dropped it off yesterday. Old M3 body has obvious dents/scratches, but appears to function OK. The lens was wrapped in plastic with a repair estimate from 1985: unrepairable.

So I unwrap it and find.. a Noctilux 50mm f/1.2 lens. The lens and diaphram assembly are in very good condition, but the focusing ring is uneven/barely turnable and one bayonet looks like that's where it had fallen on. So where to send it to? I have an idea what the repair would run, and it's likely outside of her budget. Maybe I can adapt it to my EOS? Actually I was thinking of just sending it to Leica Repair in NJ for estimate. Anyways, appreciate any pointers.

Lucky you if you can have the Noctilux repaired!

But you cannot adapt a Leica M mount lens to a Canon EF camera.

Three names for you if you want to have it repaired...

Thank You. I'll let you know if I do. It looks pretty darn large on that M3 (got it to fit).

Kindermann Canada in Ontario is absolutely tops in my book.
They are official Leica repair in Canada and they are very good.
In about 3 years and several jobs [including an R8 which was damaged] nothing has had to go back for a re-do.

You can't use an M lens on anything but a camera with an M bayonet. The film-to-lens distance is a lot shorter than on any SLR.
