I just hope 1. Nikon can actually make enough bodies to fill the need, and 2. Nikon can make enough bodies to fill the need!

Boy, I just realized you can go 14-24mm, 24-70mm, and 70-200mm ALL at F/2.8 and with NO overlap.

Now THAT is going to be the premiere setup!!

Well I am impressed. It's so good to have some good news for a change, even if you're not going to be able to get your hands on them for a few months!

I'm severely tempted to just say to hell with the money and get a D3. Man that thing looks awesome! Far more kit than I can really justify, but oh my what a camera. Can't wait to put my FF 12-24 on there, mmmmmmm.........

One thing that's a little odd, anyone notice the AF position layout on this page: http://www.dpreview.com/previews/nikond3/page4.asp There are none near the edge of the frame :\

As a Canon user, even I'm excited! Competition is GREAT for everyone. Especially now that Nikon is bringing the full-frame heat ...

The D300 is cool, but doesn't seem like quite the quantum leap that the D3 is ... that beast sounds amazing.

I think that will be for the purpose when using the DX mode

Man I want one of those D3's... Why is it everytime I purchase something new, a better motel comes out? For example, I bought my D200 about 3 months ago. Now the D300 comes out...

My D2x is old and worn.. so i need to upgrade...

I can say first hand Nikon has nailed the noise control problem. Shot several 6400 this afternoon with the D3. Looked like the D2xs at 1600 maybe 800 I might be jumping the gun as these were all LCD images nothing on computer, but wow it was nice. Then new 24-70mm is a nice lens. And FF was like a breath of fresh air.

Thanks for info. Now when we know how poor is 1Ds3 ISO-performance, are there any D3 samples to look at? Couldn't find any official sample at NIkon site.

Thank you in advance for any links.

I am also a Canon user, and these are great news for everybody! Nikon still needs to bring something to compete with the 5D, awesome IQ at a decent price! I am curious to see how the D300 will perform with 12Mpix in a cropped sensor.

Hey, I bought my D200 3 weeks ago...
Now I have to spend weeks convincing myself that I wouldn't have bought the D300 anyway.

The camera or the new lenses, oh sh*t I don't have enough money for both! The D300 sounds wonderful, but the D3, man oh man, I want one! Nikon has scored! I think that the 14-24, and 24-70mm are my first "must gets". Camera bodies come and go, but good glass is forever.

For all you Aussie Nikon shooters, some bad news!

Someone on another forum said they where talking to Nikon Australia today, and the D300 won't be available in Australia for 6 months? (Don't know if thats the case or not).

The expected price is going to be around $2599 (Au$).

Looks like you will need to find a grey importer to supply you with your D300. No news about the D3.

Seems silly for Nikon Australia not to release the camera here for 6 months after it hits the market worldwide!?

The camera will only be released in November and they're going to dribble into distribution worldwide; 6 months from today to wide availability is probably a reasonable (though a bit over-conservative) estimate.

I can't believe nobody has said yet that they are "chuffed!" Is anyone chuffed? I'm chuffed! I will most definitely be upgrading my already excellent and capable D200 to a D300 this winter!

We have but none that we are able to provide at this time. One word though, impressive.

So much so that since i currently shoot 30D 24-70 f/2.8L, 70-200mm f/4L and 135 f/2L all gear obtained prior to working for Nikon. That I'm considering the switch to a D3 with the new 24-70mm f/2.8 and some other lenses.

Nikons not done yet. It gets better.

Yes Jay, join the darkside!

BTW, what do you mean "not done yet" Is there more that they haven't announced?

That 14-200 at constant f/2.8 for FF is some range aint it?
