Hmm, the D300 now has a integrated cleaning system. It is interesting to me, that the D300 only does the 8fps with the EN-EL4 battery not two EN-El3e batteries I also noticed the D3 has a reduced eyepoint, now down to 18mm. I hope the VF is good despite that. On a side note, anyone find how the focus points are laid out, like what pattern?

Scroll down to see the layout.. this is the D3 article but it's of course the same.

There is NO way 25K is going to look good. H-2 has never really been nice on any camera I've touched. It would be nice in B/W though! I would love to see some test shots though...WHERE ARE THEY?

I can't believe the 51 point AF...wish they could have kept that count down. Always gets annoying in the 1D VF. I also can't believe the 8fps on the D300...I mean..shit! I wonder if they worked on the DR with either of these.

Also...the damn 3 inch screen is a mega pixel! crap!

I can't tell if you are actually happy or frustrated buddy! DR? WHO CARES ABOUT DR!

Actually if you read clearly, nikon claims a 300% increase in DR on the D3

Good things come to those who wait!

I am blown away. I am speechless....I have no speech.

These new cameras rock. The D3, priced at$5000, is cosiderably cheaper than the 1Ds Mark III.

Impressive!

As an owner of a 1DSmII I have to say I am way more imressed with the release of the D3 than the 1DSmkIII. I think Nikon has hit a real sweet spot with a full frame 12mp sensor. Honestly I think I only have one Canon lens that can come close to resolving enough detail to make my 16.7mp sensor worth it. 21mp is just a waist, I don't think there are any Canon lenses that can handle that kind of resolution. My only resevation on the new D3 is wether Nikon has made progress on reducing the high iso noise issues, especially with a top end of 25600.

And to you Canon bashers. Please don't use my statements as ammo. I am brand neutral. I went with Canon because I like to go really wide, and at the time it was the best fit.

Yeah. Me too. Looks like an incredible release. Lets hope there are no launch goof ups (AF issues, banding etc.)

Here's the US press release (if it really matters)-

http://press.nikonusa.com/2007/08/eight_years_after_changing_pro.php

When you put a dx lens on the d3 it does crop down to just over 5MP at 10 or 11 fps. There is also a built in level in the camera. I would think a landscape photog would like this feature.

wow.. both cameras are just wow... I am not getting on any preorder list because my d200 is working just fine. But my d70 will be having a retirement party next April.

Yes, I agree with you. I am also a 1DsII owner and on paper D3 is a much more impressive new camera than 1DsIII.

Good job Nikon. It is time to teach Canon a lesson.

Nice cameras, and a huge step forward for Nikon users - really great. The two new zooms also look fantastic in terms of specs. Now Nikon just need to produce some faster primes sich as a 24 and 35mm f/1.4 and Canon won't have a leg to stand on.

There are PDFs now available on the us site. Here's something that SOMEONE will complain about - flash sync on the d3 is still 1/250.

I also saw the prices on the new VR lenses.. the 600mm VRII is $9,500US Oh, time to sell the car and buy a lens. The 400mm is $8,800 and the 500mm is $7,900.

What we need to see is someone reputable reviewing some of this stuff. Poor Mr. Hogan, he's going to get a LOT of email

Any idea if these two bodies will have lcd covers? I can't tell from any pictures if there are places for a cover to clip to

Like the rest of you, I'm in awe. The D300 is and has absolutely everything I could have hoped for, and then some, and then some more, and then I lose track.

For fast-moving aircraft at airshows, I need more than the D200 can give me (despite how wonderful the D200 is!). My only question now, is where on Earth do I buy one, right bloody now?

Please, someone... please point me to a reputable camera store with a preorder list! I beg of you...

Impressive. Most impressive. As long as it delivers properly, I think a lot of photographers will be very happy.

I mean this is a HUGE shot across the bow... A smackdown as it were.

I think they hope to amortize the cost of the new AF and LCD by spreading it across the two cameras and it's obvious that they'll sell boatloads of the D300. As an added bonus, since the parts are the same, they can cut manufacturing costs by not having to support two different types of parts... Nice, very nice.

I can say first hand Nikon has nailed the noise control problem. Shot several 6400 this afternoon with the D3. Looked like the D2xs at 1600 maybe 800 I might be jumping the gun as these were all LCD images nothing on computer, but wow it was nice. Then new 24-70mm is a nice lens. And FF was like a breath of fresh air.
