This wasnt super scientific....I didnt create little control
groups....yeah I am sure there were things I could have done
diffrently....yada yada yada...point still is undeniable.

The tissues are over to your left....

Anyone want to contribute to the Roman Johnston 39MP back fund?!?

Wow that is clear! Thanks for spoiling it!!! I am about to go through the same thing but with astronomy. I have a 16-inch Dob that I like very much, but on September 8th I will be looking through an 82-inch telescope at McDonald Observatory (Huge) and I after that experience, my 16-inch scope will seem puny! I will soon understand how you feel Roman.

No I don't want to contribute, and I'm not sure I like you anymore Roman for having shown me this!!! That's just amazing and sickening at the same time. What I wouldn't give for that kind of capability...I suppose I should thank you for posting this, if only for being able to enjoy the fantasy for a brief period. I'll take a tissue now.

Nice stuff. I remember when the early members of this forum were doing similar comparisons between the Canon d60 and the then new 1Ds back in late 2002. I had to buy one. Never regretted it.

Roman,

Wow!...I am speechless. That one one will remain a dream for me.

One question? Does the resolution matter if we are not printing bigger
than 18x24? At what point for given print size will we see the Hassy
taking a lead or make it obvious in the print quality?

Cheers!

Wow, what a difference!

Could you post the same shots from both at web size? I'm curious if all those fine details and colors show through then as well.

Detail is great as one would expect. However, that isn't the only thing in photography as I am sure you know. In fact lately I have decided to start shooting a Leica IIIg rangefinder made in 1959 just to be more basic and creative. Course my subject isn't landscapes

I wonder how much is the the quality of the lens to. Size matters!

It's a pity you have nothing better to do.

But please remember, no matter how fast you travel on the freeway, someone will always pass you 2x as fast...... It's not the camera...........

I'll give you $1....

I personally like to think you cheated the test and shot the second "crop" with the D2X and telephoto It's easier that way.

Curses! This is obviously a case for a selective memory wipe, as in that movie.

First crop: 100 ISO, f/11, 15"
Second crop: 50 ISO, f/11, 16"

There is the difference!

Does the MF back have an anti-aliasing filter?

I was expecting an important difference as the Hassy has roughly 3.25 times the number of pixels but I would never have imagined such a difference in resolution and details. Very impressive. Lookes like comparing 35 mm slide with 8x10 velvia.

I am wondering if doing a mosaic of let's say 6 or 8 D2X images (accounting for overlap) you would get the same level of details.

Wow that is awesome.

I know by myself that the photographer makes the Image, but if i had the oppinion to make this picture with that hassy i would certainly take it, just think of a man-sized poster so crisp and nice!
*dream*.....
