6.5 fps and Dual Digic III Processor!

BGE2N? I wonder how much better then the normal BGE2 it is? (Its compatible with both).

Also AF with live view via custom function (Mirror drops down) Is that the same as the 1D3?

Interchangeable Focusing screens (About time). Still the same sized viewfinder as the 30D though.

Well, if you carefully read the specs at the Amazon page...

  1. Number of AF points: Nine, all cross-type AF points
  2. Center AF point: Unique hybrid cross-type AF point; world's first high-precision AF point with both horizontal and vertical high-precision; additional standard precision, cross-type sensors for lenses from f2.8 to f5.6
  3. AF sensor: Entirely new Canon CMOS AF sensor
  4. AF sensitivity range: EV -0.5 to 18 (at 73 degrees F / 23 degrees C, ISO 100)

It's a bit of a no-brainer that Servo AF will work better as result of these improvements.

Only single Digic III as far as I can tell. And the viewfinder has .95x magnification, up from .90x on the 30D, so that's a win.

Baffling indeed ... always nice to hear from fans :-)

The rumour pages should perhaps have even bigger health warnings on them to not take them too seriously :-) :-)

bye for now

I just hope it fits the cameras sole plate better than on the 30D where the rounded corners are left uncovered. It not only looks sloppy, it's practically inviting something to get caught in there.

I wonder if there's a focus tuning feature like on the EOS 1D MkIII...

Who said anything about dual DIGIC III ??

I can't imagine that the current DIGIC III lacks enough headroom to stretch its processing power up a notch.

Dual DIGIC III in the 1D Mk III for 10.1 fps, or a single higher clocked DIGIC III for 6.5 fps? Seems only fair to me. A 30% increase in speed is not too far a stretch at all. A new IC has a lot of headroom and DIGIC III has been around a year now.

Sorry I was reading the 1Ds3 specs on the Dual Digic III.

I noticed that with the new software, there is a Picture style editor included with the 40D. I wonder if we will be able to download it and use with current models?

Canon's Picture Style Editor (PSE) 1.0 software. With PSE, shooters can actually design the look of their photographs by inputting their own preferred style, color, and tone curves.

Sounds like the photography equivalent of the Joint Strike Fighter...

The Amazon page says the new camera will be released on December 10th. That's my birthday. Do I get the new camera as a present?

It was mentioned already back on page 133...

Please stop spamming your rumour site again and again... And too late and too late for that matter too. You make yourself look like a fool.

I need to upgrade asap, i shoot 99% surf. and the al servo is not up to it for shooting from the channel in the water with a 20/30d, so it will be either bewteen this camera or a used 1d2n. Its a given it will be improved, im just really keen to know how much its improved

I'm with you Ben. Similar purpose: sailboards, sailing, surfing, athletics (where 6.5 fps will be unreal), motorsport, horse racing and airshows. Now that I've heard this I'm keen to see it.

Somebody start a new 40D thread - this one is getting ridiculous.

Sorry Keith, no personal offense meant to you, but as for rumor mongering, Northlight contributes to more "irrational exuberance" than any other single site I can think of at the moment. I agree and think a huge WARNING statement would help (when there isn't an amazon leak to verify it).

People seem to frequent your site, but as for the "rumors" being actual rumors, most of the cattle feeding at the trough never seem to understand that little fact, and when a site becomes self-referential it certainly doesn't aid credibility IMO.

Facts we know: 1) Canon will release new cameras (1Ds3, 5d2 or whatever); 2) Those cameras will have some improvements, and some back sliding nonsense aka the dust shaker; 3) Those that truly know what and when are not saying. Anything beyond that is pretty much a collection of WAGs (Amazon aside).

I'm happy to contribute to "irrational exuberance" sometimes :-) It's fun! :-)

..but seriously, I've always tried to give references for info I've quoted, and I think my personal asides give a reasonable hint when I think the info is to be taken with an even larger pinch of salt than usual :-)

I believe most people are more than capable of working stuff out for themselves (and I think you do many visitors a great dis-service in your description)...

The pages give a lot of people a spot of entertainment, and that IMHO is a good thing to do :-) Hopefully people will also get more out of the (vast majority) of non rumour pages on the info parts of the site :-)

I check it every day for something new, then go on about my business - just one of many, many sites I read every day, most not photo-related.

Keith, enjoyed your Pacific coast travelog this year, as well.

Today's news - !!! New 14mm lens, I had both a sigma and a Canon 14mm, sold 'em both....and, my birthday is Dec 14...very tempted to do a preorder at Amazon.

Just for those who are keeping score, I confirmed the 18-55 IS back in March:
http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic2/515986

I didn't see the 55-250 IS mentioned in this recent leak, but it's coming too.

I've got info on the next full frame body as well, but I'll let that slide for a bit until details firm up.

FYI, 'janez nori' is done posting links to his rumor website here at FM.com. This has gotten completely out of hand, and I didn't realize the extent of it until I did some digging. Going as far as posting links to pages on his website for 'presenting' images was simply over the top.

If anyone sees any posted links in the future, please report them to me.

According to amazon.com, Canon has a new 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS lens... Amazon has been removing all the web pages they had up for the past 3 hours or so... So the old link may not be working anymore... but it's pretty clear that Amazon posted real information, and now has been yanking it down. It was there, trust me...

here is the link... it still working as of moments ago...

Thanks a lot Jeff, I think a lot of people were starting to be really annoyed here (including me). Let's keep the best Canon forum clean and as good as possible. Cheers. Fred
