stits, I think we are due for a couple features that are worth upgrading from a 20D. No doubt it will have better AF, larger LCD, digic 3, and hopefully ISO 6400.

Eh, I have a 20D and honestly can't imagine the 40D to be a wow or a must buy item for most of us. If you've got an older body I just can't imagine (after the 30d release) that it's going to be evolutionary. Just pick up a used 5D or Full pro body and be happy.

A 5D is a wonderful upgrade from an older body, IF you shoot Weddings, etc...It is too slow for sports. I myself would love to have the 1Dxxx, however I am small and size/weight plays a role. A DSLR on the line of a D200 would be up my alley. Yes, I prefer to wait for Canon.

Knowing the "New" model will be out soon, I will wait!

I thought that 5D will be next to update, and xxD series after that...

Of course this guy is different. No doubt that he's privy to information that nobody else has. After all, he's a camera shop owner.

Totally dude. I mean, he's not a rep - otherwise I'd really listen!

Unfortunatly, I like rumor, it’s fun for me at least. Im waiting this announcement as well, not for 40D or 5DMK II, but for new lens that will be launched with… any rumors? ei ei

Not very likely. The 5D has no competition, but the 30D is getting hammered by the D200. I wouldn't expect a replacement for the 5D until PMA next year at the earliest.
To be honest, I think we'll see an upgrade for the 1DsMarkII before a new 5D.

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/digital-cameras/canon-eos-40d-details-leaked-101
megapixels-198489.php

Leaked details about the latest model—the 40D—are making the rounds. The Canon EOS 40D is predicted to sport a 10.1-megapixel image sensor, a 2.5-inch display and some sort of anti-dust feature. For the most part, thats all that's been leaked thus far (even this picture is a mock-up), but it wouldn't take much to assume that it'll cost about as much as the current 30D, or about $1,300.

If Internet moles can be trusted, expect to see the compact flash-friendly EOS 40D on September 26. – Nicholas Deleon

how about a 100-300 F4 IS as well.....!!!!

Yes, I like Rumor too. Bring them on! The 20/30D is very old, and almost the same camera....Maybe live view, upgrade on the auto focus.......

I think the 20D Mark III will have a dust shaker, upgraded sensor, slightly upgraded AF, and possibly live view.

Okay, so I'm conservative...

I take it that's a quote from the website...

I wonder who leaked the specs? Ritz Camera, or possibly Best Buy?

Here's my prediction for the 30D replacement:

*12mp sensor (Doesn't make sense for Canon to release a 10mp sensor when the competition will be updating there current 10mp models to 12mp during the production life of the new model.

*Anti dust sensor
*Digic III Processor
*5fps
*3" LCD
*Live view mode
*Micro lens adjustment
*MLU Button

Also I have a feeling Canon may also update the AF system to 11points.

This article is from a long long time ago... you can go on gizmodo.com and search 40d and find more articles or rumors all dated before the last PMA... please disregard these rumors and let us keep on waiting.

In your dreams, or more likely, nightmares. Giving millions of laymen the ability to screw up the camera focus mechanism to levels far worse than the default, while helping the select few who actually know how to do it, is not in their interest.

3" LCD and Live View will seal the deal for me

I hope this isn't crap!!

I have chosen three lenses and just need a body..
Will sell my 300D once I can make a decision based on if the 40D takes a leap in new features or get a cheap 30D if it is a disappointment.......

Hello all,

I understand all the sarcastic comments ! ;-)
I have also read a lot of fantastic rumours about the next 30D since 2006 !

All I can say is wait a little and let's talk in July ! ;-)

For information, there is a very serious forum in France, approuved by CANON, and they have the same information as mine... It's not a proof in itself but it's a good sign, no ?

Let's have a look at this forum : http://www.eos-numerique.com/forums/
On the Top of the page, there is an Information in yellow that say " The 30D replacement will be announced in July... Stay Tuned ! "

Unless they've solved the problem where you can't auto-focus in 'Live View' (as is the case on the 1D3) then to be honest I don't quite see that it as a feature i'd use at all often.

As far as the rumours go, i'm always rather sceptical. A rep telling a shop owner a new model is imminent would potentially be doing themselves out of potential sales of the model thats being replaced. Plus anyone who does know will undoubtedly be under a NDA anyway.

Canon have been resisting this for years now... the local betting agency indicates a 2nd direct print button is more likely ;-) (yes an MLU button would be great I agree)

I do believe the Sales Reps have an idea to give to their accounts "when" the new models will be released!!! No, not specs. It is coming soon....in that part of the market share, Canon is taking a hit. Nikon is all over with NEW DSLR's...just my thoughts.

I've been reading about Canon being beaten around the bush by Nikon for ages, for every market segment, every time Nikon brought out a new camera. Makes me wonder how come Canon is still the #1 dSLR manufacturer... by a long shot.

I've been using a 20D for almost two years now. As much as I'd love to have a 1D3, I just can't afford it. I really hope the 40D will be a true "Baby MKIII". To me, that means ISO6400, better tracking, keep the 9-point AF but make them all x-type. Those are the major impovements that would make me upgrade. Live view, more MP, bigger LCD, I just don't care about those. I shoot sports on the darkest fields and in the darkest gyms, I need better AF and high ISO.
