Just for kicks, and in the name of rampant speculation..

If the 1D MK3 uses two Digic III chips to process 10 MP at 10 fps, is it unreasonable to assume the 40D will use one Digic III chip to process 10 MP at 5 fps?

Seems like a perfectly reasonable route. That specification, probably Live View, and perhaps an improved AF system. Sounds like a winner.

Dave, I'd take the improved focusing over live view any day. And hoping for some better igh ISO low noise performance

Spoke with 2 Canon reps, over the last 6 weeks or so, and one of the major retailers' store owners over here.

The 40D is expected in store at the end of June, and at the latest the beginning of July. This is what they said. No specs, though.

Furthermore, the replacement for the 1Ds MkII is expected in September, and at the latest beginning of December.

Oh, and all in this year, 2007 .

Kind regards, Wim

One thing's for sure... Canon's lack of advancement in the 20D/30D/40D market has given the competition a heck of a chance to catch up or get ahead.

The decision to break routine and get the body to market earlier might not be a bad one if it were to actually take place. If they actually do, it won't leave any time for the competition to react to what they release before fall, so it could be a really strong move to both release it and see major sales prior to 2008.

The competition has been ahead for a while. Canon just keeps lowering the price of the 30D, so there remains a huge gap between the 30D and 5D.

West Photo in Minneapolis says probably six to ten months for the 40D. The next camera will likely be the Mark lllS

More pointless rumors, destined to be as true as the last series of pointless rumours before PMA. When are ya'll gonna learn ?
These people have no more idea what Canon is going to do than I do. Why would they be privy to info nobody else has ?
Good luck.

I was hopping for APS-H form factor and digic 3 this would put it well above anything from Nikon.

I used to like you Tom, but you've turned out to be a real jerk. I am not going to watch any more of your movies.

If people want to believe that the 40d is coming in July, let them.
You can't persecute people based on their beliefs. Come on, read the forum rules....

Only TransWarp? I thought they were putting in the short-distance site-to-site transporter so that sports and wedding photographers can zip around more quickly.

I love how it will be "available in July." At this rate, the mkIII won't be available until August, and it was announced a couple months back.

I think the 1D III is having issues with the AF and that's the reason for the delay.

You may well be right, although I don't know exactly what the issue is. At any rate better it be addressed now than after release. Some prefer to wait six months before buying a newly released camera, for initial bugs to be worked out.

Had no problems with a new 20D I got the first week they hit the stores. Some say the latter 5Ds have less of a dust problem. Hard to say.

My Predictions:

The replacement for the 30D will definitely happen!

It may or may not be called a 40D!

It will be black!

It will accept EF lenses!

It may accept EF-S lenses!

It will have a print button!

It will have a screen on the back!

More details to follow!

Does anybody expect live histogram on 40D? It is a strong tool that I experience on my Lumix P&S.

Whatever the date is I'm ready to buy. Hopefully, it will coincide with the Fall rebate.

If you are ready to buy without knowing what it is and how much it costs, then I have some great lake front property for sale.

Well if there's going to be any announcement, it'll happen maybe just maybe when Golden Week in Japan starts. Golden Week is the third week of May, but I wouldn't hold my breath until the end of the summer.

That's my two-cents.
