Long, sad and frustrating. What did we do before the internet and instant news to complain about? I did not even know what PMA was 30 years ago.

You're kidding, right? Are you still dumping your canon gear in favor of ... what?

I'm feelin' kinda smug right now!

As my introduction to shooting digital I picked up a 30D early last summer knowing that I would soon feel inadequate next to the owners of whatever replaced the 30D...

Now I have six more months of self-esteem

So what do you think about 7-8th March announcements? I'm pretty sure 1Ds mkIII is not going to be announced as well as 6D, because it would hurt the 1Ds mkII sales if Canon intorduced it before mkIII (but I still hope for 5D mkII, with same sensor, but antidust, weather sealing, DIGIC III and some minor improvements). 40D perhaps...

7-8th March Announcements? Where have you heard this, yesterday Canon was saying that's it for PMA?

I didn't hear it, I was just hoping for a press day (7th March) announcement. So that's officially it, just one camera for Canon's double anniversary? I must say I'm dissapointed (although 1D mkIII is a beast, but OTOH camera that interest me the least of all).

I'm enthused with Canon's new introductions so far and happy for those who've been waiting for the 1.3 crop upgrade - many had it dying away remember?
The way I think, FF and 1.6 upgrades have much in store and I expect their
planned improved features will be just as dramatic. I for one am still very
satisfied with my 20/30D's and am somewhat relieved that I won't have any
new body temptations/possible body upgrade expenditures gnawing at me
for awhile

Because some of us are using equipment which in our opinions is marginal - I'm still using a 10d because I can't justify the cost of upgrading to a 30d based on the few extra features it offers. That means I'm stuck with a camera that takes an eternity to start up, and writes to cards about as fast as I write to slates

As for the money side. I've already got the $$$ ready for a 40d sitting in the bank. I set them aside when I knew the 30d was due, since I desperately want a replacement. Unfortunately the 1D3 is simply too expensive for me. It's also a bit heavy... 5d is tempting, but again it's more expensive.

Even if the 40D is not announced in the next few weeks you can buy a fantastic camera with faster write, startup, and fps than what you have - a 20D. Used prices for the 20D are around $600 (body only), which may drop to $500 after the release of the 40D. You can essentially "rent" a 20D for the next year for $150 or less, and benefit from the faster startup, write, framerate, and fps in the meantime. You also don't need to buy the 40D at new release prices, you can wait 6 - 12 months and get your $150 back in savings. Contrary to popular belief, the 20D has great IQ and extremely good AF. At this point my images are far more limited by my skill than by my camera.

Once upon a time a rabbit traded in all his great canon gear for a D200. Then a fox ate him.

A German dealer ac-foto.com already shows the 1D3 as EUR 4.292 + 111 for UPS COD shipping to "England" (no UK listed as a country). This includes the German VAT (of 19%). With currency rate 1.49, this results in £2.955 at your door in UK.

If this is going to be the real price in EU and I think so (around the 4K but in €), I hope B&H is going to fill up their stocks with 1D MkIII´s at $4K, because 4$K -->>> €3.075, for this price I can fly to NYC, buy the cam, stay the week end in the city, come back and still I did not wast all the cost of the cam here !!!

Just be careful, if you ever need to get the camera repaired, you may need to return it to the US for those repairs....

Nope, I shall buy a 3 year international warranty from them; as I have done with me EF 300 f/4 L IS and no problem !!!

Let Canon enjoy the moment for a while with the 1D3 announcement. They deserve it with this release although it may not be the camera for me. Two or three camera releases would have taken the spotlight away from the 1D3. Let them get the first batch on the street... then we'll see some of these new improvement trickle into a 40D and 5D mark II.

"Not to rub salt in the wound, but here in the states if you buy something mail order and the company does not have a presence in your state you don't pay the sales tax. B&H is in new york and I live in new jersey (they are seperated by the hudson river), and I don't pay tax. That's why the prices are listed without tax; the tax is determined by state. Theoretically you are supposed to keep track of such purchases and pay an additional tax at the end of the year. The down side is that if I drive across the bridge and visit their store to pick out my lens I do have to pay the 8% NY sales tax."

Then again, you can have the best of both worlds by visiting the incredible B&H Store, picking out what you want, and having it shipped to you and still avoid the sales tax. If you are a NAPP member, the shipping is even free! Is this a great country, or what!

Oh man... I sure hope Canon doesn't think that putting a 30D in some boxes with a few different lenses is really something to celebrate...

The 1DMIII is a nice new camera... but surely it's not worthy of celebrating all year... and these box sets are basically a joke if you ask me. (a bad joke at that)

I thought surely they'd announce something in addition to the new 1DIII.
I'm ready to upgrade from my 300D and I was looking to the 40D as the right motivation.

i have 350d and i want to get something better, still waiting for new 40d, if there is no 40d, there is only one thing to do, to get Nikon d200, bye bye Canon

Or you can save your money and continue to shoot with your 350D which is a very respectable camera, unless of course, your camera is really limiting you somehow - which seems unlikely for most.

Get whatever you want to use and stick with it--switching will cost you big time. I know, I've done it.
